My client is an up and coming $10M general contractor based in the Culver City area. Our client is dedicated to the construction industry in LA and being the best of the best over the next 5-10 years. The team is looking for a Construction Controller to join their team and lead their finances.
My client is looking for an accomplished and technically saavy Controller to join their team as the organization continues to grow. In this role, you will be reporting directly into the CEO and partner cross functionally to automate processes, own the month end close process, WIP reporting, and lead any software automation processes you see fit.
Job Description
- Construction Accounting & Controls: Own QuickBooks configuration and data hygiene aligned to standardized WBS/CSI structures; enforce three‑way match, commitment controls, and audit‑ready documentation across all projects.
- Job Costing & Change Management: Establish and manage budget baselines by phase/trade; track commitments, actuals, EAC, retainage, and approved change orders with real‑time flow‑through to budgets, SOVs, and contracts.
- Pay Applications & Cash Management: Run weekly AP cycles, ensure subcontractor compliance, process invoices against lien waivers, and manage job-level cash‑flow forecasts, funding schedules, and draw packages.
- Financial Planning, Analysis & Reporting: Lead monthly variance analysis by job/cost code; deliver accurate dashboards covering job cost, WIP/over‑under, cash vs. forecast, AR/AP, retainage, COR pipelines, and margin performance.
- Compliance, Close & Tax Readiness: Design and enforce internal controls; manage reconciliations, accruals, WIP schedules, revenue recognition, cost capitalization, use tax, 1099s, and contractor compliance.
- Systems, Data & Process Optimization: Administer QuickBooks-Procore integrations; document and continuously improve SOPs, approval workflows, automation, and close checklists to ensure data integrity.
- Leadership & Cross‑Functional Partnership: Manage and develop the accounting team; partner closely with PMs, field leadership, owners/GCs, CPAs, and banks to keep costs current, billing timely, and issues resolved proactively.
The Successful Applicant
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA preferred
- 7 years of progressive experience in construction accounting
- Experience with ProCore, QuickBooks
- Ability to be proactive with senior leadership
