Position Summary
As the Assistant Director - Minor League Medical, you will support the Director of Medical Operations in overseeing all aspects of player health, including injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation programs. This role involves collaborating with healthcare professionals, coordinating with team physicians, and assisting in the development of strategies to optimize player performance and well-being. An interprofessional collaborative spirit, effective multidiscipline communication, relationship building through a foundation of trust, integrity, and a player-centered approach to healthcare  are essential for success in this position. 
 
Essential Functions
  • Assist in the development and implementation of medical policies, procedures, and injury management protocols.
  • Support the medical staff, including team physicians, athletic trainers, and rehabilitation specialists.
  • Oversight of the Minor League Healthcare System 
  • Ensure compliance with MLB health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with front office executives and coaching staff on player health decisions.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and participate in medical research initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between players, medical staff, and team management regarding health-related concerns.
  • Assist with risk management strategies for both player procurement and amateur acquisitions

Skill Requirements 
  • Proficiency in MLB Electronic Medical Records System (AthleteRMS)
  • Strong knowledge of sports medicine, injury prevention, and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Experience in diagnosing and treating sports-related injuries.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to make informed medical decisions under pressure.
  • Familiarity with MLB health and safety regulations.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
 
Education & Experience Guidelines 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy  
  • Master’s degree or Doctoral degree preferred in Athletic Training. 
  • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) through the Board of Certification (BOC).
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state of employment (Florida). 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an athletic trainer, preferably in professional baseball or elite-level sports.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state of employment (Florida).
  • Certification in Manual Therapy, Strength & Conditioning, or related specialty preferred. 
  • Upper Extremity Fellowship or Orthopedic/Sports Medicine  Fellowship preferred. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in sports physical therapy, preferably in professional or collegiate baseball.
  • Experience working with high-performance athletes in rehabilitation and injury prevention.
  • Experience in a leadership or managerial role is preferred.
 
Work Environment 
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel as required throughout the season.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks when necessary.
