Position Summary

As a Minor League Hitting Coach, you will be responsible for implementing hitting philosophies and player-specific development plans at the Minor League Level. This position will work in collaboration with the director of hitting and support staff to optimize offensive performance while working directly with players to enhance hitting mechanics, improving plate discipline, and integrate modern hitting analytics into training regimens. Strong communication skills, a data-driven approach, and the ability to connect with athletes are essential for success in this position.

Essential Functions

  • Implement and uphold the Miami Marlins' hitting philosophy ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall development goals.
  • Develop and execute individualized player development plans tailored to each hitter’s mechanics, approach, and mental preparation.
  • Utilize performance technology such as Trackman, Blast Motion, KinaTrax and Edgertronic cameras to analyze swing mechanics and approach at the plate.
  • Collaborate and maintain open communication with the director of hitting, front office, strength & conditioning staff, medical staff, baseball solutions and sports science teams to optimize player performance and ensure organizational alignment.
  • Provide detailed feedback through video analysis, in-game observations, and statistical reports.
  • Support and mentor players in adjusting their offensive strategies based on advanced scouting reports and game situations.
  • Foster a culture of learning, adaptability, and resilience among players.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in hitting instruction, biomechanics, and player development strategies.

Skills Requirements

Technical, Hard, and Soft Skills

  • Deep understanding of modern hitting mechanics, approach, and pitch recognition strategies.
  • Experience using baseball technology such as Trackman, Blast Motion, KinaTrax and video analysis software (e.g., BATS, Edgertronic).
  • Ability to interpret data and integrate it into coaching strategies.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills to support player growth.
  • Excellent communication skills to deliver clear, impactful feedback to players and staff.
  • Ability to adapt coaching methods to different learning styles and personalities.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with other departments, including analytics, strength & conditioning, baseball solutions and medical staff.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Education & Experience Guidelines

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Sports Science, Kinesiology, Coaching, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Prior coaching experience at the professional, collegiate, or high-level amateur level required.
  • Former playing experience at the collegiate or professional level is a plus but not required.
  • Experience integrating biomechanics, analytics, and sports science into hitting instruction is highly desirable.

Work Environment

  • Ability to work long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, during the baseball season.
  • Ability to life up to 50 pounds regularly (e.g., equipment, training aids).
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the season, including off-season trips to support player development and performance.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions, including heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions.
