Basic Job Description: Restores body parts and the bodywork of damaged vehicles, based on the manufacturer’s and dealer’s quality standards and standard times.
The MAJOR TASKS are listed below, but the incumbent may be assigned to other duties.
- Operates and uses all body shop equipment correctly and safely.
- Removes rust from metal and grease and filth from the work surface.
- Masks and protects parts which are not to be painted or primed.
- Mixes paint, according to its technical characteristics.
- Chooses and mixes the primer, to achieve the desired colour.
- Paints the surfaces, using a spray gun or brush, as required.
- Examines the painted surfaces, to check the quality of the work and notes any runs, ripples or unpainted portions.
- Heats the wax and sprays it on the products, after they have been tested.
- Maintains the tools and ensures that the equipment is clean and in good functional condition.
- Sees to the cleanliness of the work space.
- Maintains all personal protective equipment required for health and safety reasons, and wears it, including a respirator, according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Complies with all laws, regulations and bylaws regarding paints, thinners and other hazardous materials. Notifies management of any departure from these rules.
- Works with the other employees to repair and prepare the vehicles.
- Understands, keeps updated on and observes federal and provincial regulations and municipal bylaws governing body shop operations and occupational health and safety.
- Maintains a professional appearance.
- Performs other tasks, based on management requirements and instructions.
- Performs the work described in the work orders efficiently and accurately, based on the dealer’s and manufacturer’s standards.
- Ability to communicate with other departments as needed. Contacts the parts department to obtain the necessary parts.
- Stores and labels parts, if the work is under warranty or if the customer asks that this be done.
- Examines the vehicle assigned to him/her, to determine if additional safety or maintenance work is necessary.
- Inspects recently delivered vehicles and road tests them, to detect any obvious damage or missing components, and to evaluate their driving functions.
- Notifies the technical advisor and/or the foreman, as soon as possible, if additional work is required, if the work described is unnecessary or if the repairs cannot be done.
- Installs the optional equipment requested by the customer or the dealer.
- Reports any defective or poorly functioning equipment to his/her immediate supervisor.
- Notifies the technical advisor and/or the foreman as soon as possible if additional work is required, if the work described is unnecessary or if the repairs cannot be done by the expected deadlines.
- Documents all work performed and recommended in the work order.
- Road tests vehicles, if necessary.
- Participates in training programs and attends school and events sponsored by the manufacturer.
- Keeps up-to-date on the manufacturer’s technical bulletins.
- Supervises the work of the apprentice technicians, as requested.
- Ensures that the customers’ cars are clean. Reports any incident which may affect the appearance or condition of a car to the technical advisor as soon as possible.
- Ensures that the shop is clean and tidy.
- Maintains all the tools and manuals belonging to the dealership and takes responsibility for them; returns them to the proper location, in the same condition as when they were received.
- Stays informed of federal and provincial regulations and municipal bylaws governing the removal of hazardous waste, etc.; understands and observes them.
- Uses all tools and equipment carefully.
- Reports any safety issues to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible.
- Maintains a professional appearance.
- Performs other tasks, based on management requirements and instructions.
Qualifications
- World class customer service skills
- Experience required
- An applicant must be able to pass a drug test.
- Must have a clean and valid Driver’s License.
- Must be 18 years of age or older and be authorized to work in the U.S.
Job Details:
Job Type: Full-time Hourly
Pay: $18 - $28 per hour based on experience
Schedule: 8 hour shift, Monday – Friday with some flexibility as needed
Work Location: In person at Collision Center Body Shop
