MS Science & Math Teacher

Miami Country Day School seeks an enthusiastic and creative educator to fill the role of MS Science & Math Teacher beginning August 2026 This exciting opportunity will require a depth of science knowledge, connection to mathematical concepts, and a strong background in educational pedagogy. Miami Country Day School has a mathematics program centered on creative, integrated, non-scripted approaches to curriculum design and teaching. JOB SUMMARY:

Join a collaborative team to design and implement a curriculum that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.  The position involves teaching five sections of Middle School STEM, serving as an advisor to a group of 12-14 middle school students (grades 6-8), and actively contributing to the Science, Mathematics, and Technology Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & TASKS:

• Plans, prepares, and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning using the UbD teaching framework.
• Advises a group of 12-14 middle students (grades 6-8) on their academic and social progress and growth.
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.
• Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing norms and procedures, and maintains an optimal learning environment.
• Observes and evaluates students' performance and development, providing timely feedback to students and their parents.
• Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
• Demonstrates preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
• Participates in department, school, and parent meetings.
• Participates in overnight travel and supervision of students as required by grade-level assignments.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including working with fellow professionals for the enhancement of common instructional goals.
• Communicates effectively orally and in writing.
• Engages in continual professional growth and is a member of a dynamic community of learners: Miami Country Day School.
• Other responsibilities inherent in teaching middle school-aged students especially as it applies to developmentally appropriate curriculum and fostering of social skills and values. 

KKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITES:

• BA or BS in Science or Science Education.

• Completed or in-progress masters degree in Science, or Science education is preferred but applicants with extensive, successful teaching experience are encouraged to apply.

• Teaching experience in Independent Schools, preferably in a middle school, or relevant classroom experience is recommended.
• Knowledge and practice of Understanding by Design teaching framework is preferred.

• A lifelong learner willing to balance past experience with the demands of a new environment.

• Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery, accuracy and end-user satisfaction is expected.

• A willingness to understand and support the schools mission and vision, as well as recognize impact the climate and culture of the school have on the work of the Middle School.

• Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of various constituencies within the school community and the skills and attitude to deliver an exemplary experience to all stakeholders.

• Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
