What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Operations Manager position at MI Smiles Dental Group?
You’re an experienced multi-location dental operations manager who understands the business of dentistry and how to turn that knowledge into results. You know how to identify what’s holding a practice back, develop the managers leading its team, and implement changes that improve performance and the patient experience. Now, you’re looking for an opportunity to put that experience to work and help shape how an organization operates.
At MI Smiles Dental Group, we’re looking for a Dental Operations Manager to support six practice locations across West Michigan. In this hands-on role, you’ll supervise and coach office managers, improve daily operations, and strengthen practice performance while keeping the patient and team experience at the center of your decisions.
About MI Smiles Dental Group
MI Smiles Dental Group is a dentist-led West Michigan DSO whose story began with Hudsonville Dental in 1978. Today, our six locations include Contemporary Family Dental and MI Smiles Dental offices in Grand Haven, Cascade, Comstock Park, and Ionia.
Our practices all have local teams, established community relationships, and personalities, backed by shared support in HR, training, technology, marketing, insurance, and patient communications. For a dental operations leader, that means building and maintaining consistent systems while understanding the people and needs of each office.
Our commitment to the community extends beyond daily patient care through Smiles from the Heart free dental days and other community initiatives.
The work you’ll lead
- Develop office managers. Coach managers through daily challenges and difficult conversations. Set clear expectations, build their confidence as leaders, and hold them accountable for follow-through.
- Make daily operations work better. Identify recurring workflow problems and implement practical solutions with practice management. Build consistency across locations while responding to each team’s needs.
- Strengthen financial performance. Review reporting and work with practice management to identify improvements in budgeting, billing, and cost control, then track progress against agreed priorities.
- Improve the patient experience. Guide managers in addressing patient concerns promptly and professionally, reinforcing clear communication and respectful service.
- Maintain reliable standards. Implement and monitor administrative, practice management, and electronic patient records procedures. Work to maintain compliance with dental, safety, privacy, and employment requirements.
What you’ll bring
- Successful experience managing dental practice operations across multiple locations, including supervisory responsibilities.
- At least three years of experience in dental practice operations.
- A strong background in dental practice financial management, including budgeting, billing, and financial oversight.
- The ability to coach teams, communicate expectations clearly, and address performance concerns constructively.
- Proficiency with dental practice management and electronic health records systems, Microsoft Office, and Google productivity tools, plus the ability to learn new technology.
- Ability to work in person in Hudsonville, Michigan, and travel to practice locations approximately 50% of the time.
