What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spanish-Speaking Substitute Preschool Teacher / Maestra(o) Sustituta(o) de Preescolar position at Mi Pequeño Bilingüe?
Mi Pequeño Bilingüe – Spanish Immersion Preschool
Missoula, Montana
$18/hour | Substitute / On-Call | No Set Weekly Schedule
English
Mi Pequeño Bilingüe is a small Spanish immersion preschool and childcare program serving 15 children, ages 6 months through Pre-K. We are looking for a Spanish-speaking substitute teacher/childcare assistant who can occasionally join our program when additional coverage is needed.
This is a great opportunity for someone who loves working with children and wants occasional paid work without committing to a regular weekly schedule.
How substitute scheduling works
There are no guaranteed or required weekly hours for this position.
When we know that we will need additional coverage—for example, during planned vacations, appointments, staff absences, or other scheduled needs—we will contact our substitute(s) with the available date and shift.
You are free to accept or decline each shift based on your availability.
We especially value substitutes who are dependable once they have committed to an accepted shift.
The person we're looking for
More than anything, we're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys interacting with young children.
We want someone who is willing to get down on the floor and play, sing songs, dance, read stories, be silly, and take initiative.
There are naturally little waiting periods and transitions throughout a preschool day. If the children are getting restless, we'd love a substitute who can jump in with:
“¡Todos arriba! ¡Vamos a saltar! ¿Dónde están sus manos? ¡Ahora damos una vuelta!”
You don't need to have every activity planned for you. We value someone who can read the room, engage the children, and help keep the day fun and positive.
Responsibilities
You will work alongside our regular staff caring for our group of 15 children. Responsibilities may include:
- Speaking with the children in Spanish throughout the entire shift
- Playing and interacting actively with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers
- Singing, dancing, reading, playing games, and helping with activities
- Helping children through transitions and routines
- Using gestures, modeling, repetition, facial expressions, objects, and context to help children understand Spanish naturally
- Diapering and assisting children with toileting
- Comforting and caring for young children
- Setting up and serving meals and snacks
- Helping children during mealtimes
- Cleaning tables, dishes, toys, and childcare areas
- Helping maintain a safe, organized, warm, and positive environment
Our program uses Spanish immersion throughout the day. Children learn through listening, repetition, body language, context, play, and everyday experiences—much like a young child naturally learns their first language.
Requirements
The ideal candidate:
- Speaks Spanish comfortably and confidently
- Enjoys working with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers
- Is energetic, playful, patient, and attentive
- Is comfortable getting on the floor and actively playing with children
- Takes initiative
- Is comfortable with diapering, toileting, feeding, and cleaning
- Is dependable when accepting a shift
- Works well as part of a small team
Because we are a licensed childcare program, substitutes must also complete the required childcare approval process, including:
- Background check
- Pediatric CPR & First Aid certification
- Four required online childcare trainings (available at no cost)
- Proof of required MMR and Tdap immunizations
You do not need to have all of these completed before applying. Required training and certification can be completed as part of the hiring and approval process.
Pay & Schedule
$18/hour
This is a substitute/on-call position with no set weekly schedule and no guaranteed number of hours.
Available shifts will be offered as needs arise, often for planned vacations, appointments, or staff absences. You may accept or decline offered shifts based on your availability.
¿A quién buscamos?
¡Vamos a saltar!
- Preparar y servir comidas y meriendas
