What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spanish-Speaking Preschool Teacher / Childcare Assistant position at Mi Pequeño Bilingüe?
Mi Pequeño Bilingüe – Spanish Immersion Preschool
Missoula, Montana
$18/hour | Part-Time | 2 days per week with potential for additional days
Mi Pequeño Bilingüe is a small Spanish immersion preschool and childcare program serving 15 children, ages 6 months through Pre-K. We are looking for an energetic, warm, confident Spanish-speaking teacher/assistant who genuinely enjoys being with young children.
For us, the right personality and energy are incredibly important.
We are looking for someone who doesn't need to be told every moment what to do—someone who notices when children need engagement and naturally jumps in.
Maybe the kids are waiting for lunch and getting restless. You might start singing a song, ask everyone to touch their toes and jump three times, begin a quick game of Simón Dice, or sit on the floor and start something that immediately draws them in.
We want someone who is comfortable being playful, silly, active, affectionate, creative, and involved with the children—not someone who simply supervises from the side.
What you'll do:
You'll work alongside another adult caring for our group of 15 children. There are two adults with the children each day.
Responsibilities include:
- Speaking and interacting with the children in Spanish throughout the entire day
- Getting down on the floor and actively playing with children
- Singing, dancing, reading, playing games, and starting spontaneous activities
- Helping make transitions fun and manageable for young children
- Supporting planned preschool activities and routines
- Using gestures, modeling, repetition, facial expressions, objects, and context to help children understand Spanish naturally
- Comforting and supporting infants, toddlers, and preschoolers
- Diapering and assisting children with toileting
- Preparing and setting up meals and snacks
- Helping children during mealtimes
- Cleaning tables, dishes, toys, activity areas, and childcare spaces
- Helping maintain a safe, organized, positive environment
You do NOT need to speak English to the children. Our goal is to create an environment where children acquire Spanish naturally, much like a child learns their first language.
Who we're looking for
Our ideal candidate:
- Speaks Spanish comfortably and confidently
- Loves working with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers
- Is energetic and willing to move, dance, sing, play, and be silly
- Takes initiative without constantly waiting to be told what to do
- Can recognize when children are becoming restless and redirect their attention
- Is patient, dependable, warm, and attentive
- Is comfortable with diapering, toileting, feeding, and cleaning
- Works well as part of a small team
- Understands that caring for young children requires being actively engaged throughout the day
Childcare experience is wonderful, but we are especially interested in finding someone with the right personality, energy, reliability, and connection with children.
Licensing requirements
Because we are a licensed childcare program, the selected candidate will need to complete Montana childcare requirements, including:
- Background check (available through Childcare Resources at no cost)
- Pediatric CPR & First Aid certification
- Four required online childcare trainings (available online at no cost)
- Proof of required MMR and Tdap immunizations
You do not need to have all of these completed before applying. Required training/certification can be completed as part of the hiring and approval process.
Schedule & pay
- $18/hour
- Two days per week to start
- Potential for additional days/hours in the future
- 9-hour scheduled shifts
- 30-minute paid break each shift
- Daytime weekday schedule
- Closed on designated holidays; holidays are unpaid
Why Mi Pequeño Bilingüe?
This is a unique opportunity to use Spanish naturally every day while helping young children develop a lifelong connection with the language.
In Montana, opportunities to work completely in Spanish can be difficult to find. At Mi Pequeño Bilingüe, Spanish isn't simply something we teach during a lesson—it is the language we use to play, eat, sing, learn, comfort children, solve problems, and experience our entire day together.
We also provide access to childcare education and professional-development training to help our teachers continue building their early-childhood skills.
If you speak Spanish, genuinely enjoy young children, and are the kind of person who will jump into a room and say, “¡A ver, todos arriba! ¡Vamos a saltar!” when the kids need something to do, we would love to meet you.
Please apply with information about your Spanish ability, your experience with children, and why you think you would be a good fit for a small Spanish immersion preschool.
