Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) – 1099 Independent Contractor

MHMATTERS365 is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) to join our growing outpatient behavioral health practice in Montgomery, Alabama.

This is a 1099 independent contractor position ideal for a PMHNP seeking flexibility while building and maintaining an outpatient psychiatric patient panel. The PMHNP will provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, treatment planning, patient education, and ongoing psychiatric care within their professional scope of practice.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive initial psychiatric evaluations.
• Complete psychiatric assessments and establish appropriate diagnoses.
• Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
• Provide ongoing psychiatric medication-management visits.
• Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications within the provider’s scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Assess medication effectiveness, adherence, adverse effects, and treatment response.
• Order and review laboratory testing when clinically appropriate.
• Conduct suicide and safety risk assessments and initiate safety planning or higher levels of care when indicated.
• Provide education to patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and wellness.
• Coordinate care with therapists, primary care providers, specialists, caregivers, schools, and other professionals as clinically appropriate.
• Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Maintain compliance with Medicaid, commercial insurance, and organizational documentation requirements.
• Maintain appropriate communication and continuity of care with patients.
• Participate in credentialing, quality assurance, and clinical review activities as required.

Independent Contractor Status

This position is structured as a 1099 independent contractor opportunity. The PMHNP is responsible for applicable self-employment taxes and maintaining required professional licenses, certifications, and insurance.

The contractor will maintain professional independence while complying with applicable clinical, payer, credentialing, documentation, patient-safety, and legal requirements.

Collaborating Physician Arrangement

The PMHNP must participate in an approved collaborating physician arrangement as required by Alabama law and applicable regulations.

MHMATTERS365 will coordinate access to the practice’s collaborating physician arrangement.

The PMHNP will contribute $300 per month toward the cost of the required collaborating physician arrangement.

The $300 monthly collaborating physician contribution and associated terms will be clearly outlined in the independent contractor agreement prior to the provider beginning services.

The PMHNP must remain compliant with all applicable collaborative-practice requirements throughout the contractual relationship.

Qualifications

• Master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current PMHNP-BC certification through ANCC.
• Current and unrestricted Alabama RN and CRNP licenses.
• Current Alabama prescriptive authority as applicable.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current individual professional liability/malpractice insurance.
• Active NPI.
• Alabama Medicaid enrollment or ability to complete enrollment and credentialing.
• Ability to complete credentialing with applicable commercial insurance plans.
• Strong assessment, diagnostic, medication-management, and clinical decision-making skills.
• Excellent documentation, communication, and time-management skills.
• Ability to practice independently while collaborating appropriately with other members of the treatment team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous outpatient psychiatric experience.
• Experience treating children, adolescents, and/or adults.
• Experience with Medicaid populations.
• Familiarity with electronic health records and telehealth.
• Ability to establish and maintain a consistent patient schedule.
• Interest in growing with an expanding behavioral health practice.

Contractor Requirements

The selected PMHNP must:

• Maintain active Alabama licensure and PMHNP-BC certification.
• Maintain individual professional liability insurance.
• Maintain all required prescriptive authority.
• Complete required payer enrollment and credentialing.
• Maintain timely and compliant clinical documentation.
• Follow applicable Medicaid and commercial insurance requirements.
• Maintain compliance with collaborative-practice requirements.
• Contribute $300 per month toward the collaborating physician arrangement.
• Maintain all other requirements applicable to independent psychiatric practice.

Compensation, scheduling expectations, patient volume, collaborating physician contribution, credentialing requirements, and other contractual terms will be reviewed with qualified candidates prior to execution of the independent contractor agreement.
