About the Role
We are seeking experienced talent to join our Tax Department. This role offers an opportunity to work with a variety of clients across industries, and mentor staff while developing expertise. Individuals at this level are CPAs and have typically had a minimum of seven years’ experience and have exhibited technical proficiency.
Tax Compliance & Technical Leadership
- Lead and oversee the preparation and review of complex C Corporation tax returns, including multistate and consolidated filings; provide technical leadership on state nexus, apportionment, and entity structuring matters
- Direct flow‑through entity (S Corporation and partnership) compliance and planning engagements, including oversight of basis calculations, distribution planning, and ownership transitions
- Oversee individual (Form 1040) tax compliance and planning engagements, ensuring technical accuracy and timely delivery
- Review and supervise tax provision calculations and reporting under ASC 740, including deferred tax assets and liabilities, valuation allowances, and related disclosures
- Provide technical oversight and review for tax‑exempt organization compliance and planning engagements, including Forms 990, 990‑PF, and related filings
Tax Planning, Transactions & Advisory Services
- Serve as a key advisor on tax aspects of business transactions, including stock and asset acquisitions, mergers, and succession planning for closely held and family‑owned businesses
- Lead estate, trust, and gift tax planning and compliance engagements, including wealth transfer strategies, trust structuring, and review of Forms 706 and 709
Client Management & Firm Operations
- Manage assigned client relationships, serving as a primary point of contact and ensuring high‑quality service delivery and proactive communication
- Oversee engagement economics, including accurate and timely preparation of client billings
- Contribute to firm administration, process improvement initiatives, and other responsibilities as assigned by the partners
Skills & Competencies
· Strong supervisory experience, including mentoring and training professionals at multiple levels
· Ability to communicate complex tax and financial information clearly and concisely to clients and colleagues
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with a focus on quality and detail
· Strong technical tax knowledge and research capabilities
· Ability to identify and solve problems, recommend client-specific and firm-wide solutions, and lead implementation
· Team-oriented mindset with the ability to build and maintain long-term relationships internally and externally
· Industry expertise and experience contributing to firm-wide industry initiatives and thought leadership
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent certification
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant tax experience, preferably in public accounting
- Proficiency with tax preparation and research software, Microsoft Office Suite, and remote communication platforms (e.g. Teams, Zoom)
- Familiarity with U.S. tax code, GAAP, and ASC 740

Compensation
At M|H, compensation is designed to reflect an individual’s experience, qualifications, and market conditions within their role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns) for this position takes multiple factors into account, including education, relevant skills, work experience, certifications, and location. As a result, the final offer for the selected candidate(s) may fall anywhere within the stated range.
Compensation Range: $95,000 – 115,000 base salary (This position is bonus eligible.)
