MF Professional Services, Inc. (MFPS) provides human resources, payroll, benefits administration, and operational support to mission-driven organizations. This position may perform services on behalf of MFPS clients, including Mi Familia Vota and Mi Familia en Acción.

Position Summary

The Canvasser conducts voter registration, voter education, civic engagement, and voter-mobilization activities within assigned communities.

This field-based position requires traveling through assigned neighborhoods and community locations to engage residents using approved scripts, materials, forms, and outreach methods. Canvassers must accurately document voter contacts, protect voter information and registration materials, and comply with all field, safety, reporting, and voter-registration procedures.

This is a temporary position. The duration of the assignment will depend on campaign timelines, available funding, and organizational needs. Temporary employment does not guarantee continued employment or an extension of the assignment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Canvass assigned residential neighborhoods, businesses, community locations, public spaces, and events.

• Conduct door-to-door outreach within designated geographic areas.

• Engage community members regarding voter registration, voter education, voting options, Get Out the Vote activities, and other approved civic-engagement initiatives.

• Use only approved scripts, talking points, forms, literature, digital tools, and calls to action.

• Provide accurate, approved, and non-misleading information.

• Respect individuals who decline to participate or ask that an interaction end.

• Provide voter-registration applications and approved assistance in accordance with applicable laws and organizational procedures.

• Review voter-registration forms for apparent completeness without altering information or completing forms on behalf of applicants unless specifically permitted.

• Protect completed, incomplete, spoiled, and unused voter-registration forms from loss, damage, alteration, or unauthorized access.

• Return all forms, equipment, identification, and campaign materials according to established procedures and deadlines.

• Never falsify, alter, discard, withhold, or misuse voter-registration forms.

• Immediately report suspected misconduct, falsification, data manipulation, lost materials, or form-handling concerns.

• Attend required launches, trainings, safety briefings, check-ins, and daily debriefings.

• Follow assigned turf, schedules, goals, geographic boundaries, and reporting expectations.

• Maintain regular communication and required check-ins with the Canvass Lead.

• Accurately record doors knocked, successful contacts, voter-registration activity, responses, and other assigned metrics.

• Enter information into VAN, MiniVAN, spreadsheets, mobile applications, databases, or other approved systems.

• Submit complete and accurate daily reports, forms, and data within established deadlines.

• Protect confidential voter, community-member, employee, and organizational information.

• Follow workplace, field, vehicle, weather, heat, emergency, and incident-response procedures.

• Promptly report injuries, threats, harassment, accidents, law-enforcement interactions, unsafe conditions, or other incidents.

• Treat community members, coworkers, supervisors, and members of the public with dignity and respect.

• Accept direction, coaching, retraining, and constructive feedback.

• Accurately record all time worked and follow organizational timekeeping, attendance, meal-period, and rest-break procedures.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous canvassing, voter-registration, campaign, community outreach, organizing, customer service, sales, or other public-facing experience preferred.

• Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, and customer-service skills.

• Dependable, punctual, accountable, and comfortable approaching and speaking with members of the public.

• Ability to follow scripts, instructions, turf assignments, reporting requirements, and safety procedures.

• Ability to remain professional and composed during difficult or unexpected interactions.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to complete forms and records accurately.

• Ability to accept coaching and work independently and collaboratively as part of a field team.

• Ability to use a smartphone, tablet, mobile canvassing application, or comparable field technology.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive voter and organizational information.

• Experience working with Latino or other diverse communities preferred.

• Professional proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.

• Ability to work flexible schedules, including daytime, evening, and weekend assignments.

• Ability to travel throughout assigned communities and field locations.

• Must satisfy any voter-registration eligibility, training, appointment, or certification requirements applicable in the assigned jurisdiction.

Physical and Work Requirements

This is a field-based position requiring extended periods of walking and standing outdoors. The employee must be able to travel on foot through assigned neighborhoods and community locations while navigating sidewalks, stairs, uneven surfaces, and varying terrain.

The position requires the ability to carry outreach materials weighing up to 25 pounds and regularly use a mobile device, clipboard, voter-registration forms, literature, and other field equipment.

Work may occur in heat, cold, rain, wind, direct sunlight, traffic, noise, crowds, and other changing field conditions. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for qualified individuals with disabilities.
