Position Overview
We are seeking a detail oriented and experienced Project Estimator to join our growing construction team. The Project Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals for a variety of residential and commercial construction projects. This position plays a critical role in securing profitable projects by evaluating plans, specifications, labor requirements, material costs, subcontractor pricing, and project risks.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, the ability to read and interpret construction drawings, and experience working with both residential and commercial construction projects from preconstruction through project handoff to the project manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and other construction documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for residential and commercial construction projects.
- Develop accurate budgets for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, permits, and other project related expenses.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Compare vendor and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive and profitable project bids.
- Prepare comprehensive bid packages and proposals for clients and developers.
- Identify project risks, cost saving opportunities, and value-engineering alternatives.
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers, and clients during the preconstruction process.
- Maintain current pricing databases, vendor relationships, and estimating records.
- Create project construction schedules.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, client presentations, and project planning discussions.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of estimating experience in residential, commercial, or general construction.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Experience preparing detailed quantity takeoffs and bid proposals.
- Proficiency in Google Sheets and construction estimating software.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with BuildBook, BuildXact, Buildertrend, Bluebeam, or similar estimating software.
- Experience in both residential and commercial construction environments.
- Understanding of value engineering and cost control practices.
