Job Overview
The Flowood YMCA is seeking an energetic and caring Group Exercise Instructor to lead engaging, safe, and motivating classes for our members. We’re especially interested in candidates certified to teach SilverSneakers or experienced in working with older adults, but we welcome all certified group exercise instructors who are passionate about helping people move, feel, and live better.
Responsibilities
- Lead fun and effective group exercise classes for a variety of fitness levels and ages.
- Provide clear instruction on proper exercise techniques and safe movement patterns.
- Create a positive, encouraging atmosphere that supports member engagement and confidence.
- Adapt exercises to meet participant needs and abilities.
- Support overall wellness goals by inspiring consistency and progress.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming class environment.
- Stay current on fitness trends, safety guidelines, and best practices in anatomy and physiology.
Qualifications & Skills
- Current Group Exercise Certification (YMCA, ACE, AFAA, NASM, ISSA, or equivalent).
- SilverSneakers or other senior fitness certifications are a plus.
- Strong understanding of body mechanics, exercise technique, and group class management.
- Excellent communication and motivational skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and enthusiastic about serving a diverse community.
- CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
