Position Summary

Education
- Required - High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Required - Have and maintain a valid driver’s license Upon Hire and
- Required - CDL - Group A - Commercial Drivers License Maintain valid license while holding position within 60 Days
- Required - Hearing (audiogram) testing. Upon Hire
- Required - Certified to wear an Air Purifying Respirator and a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) in order to comply with confined entry procedures and/or chemical exposure. Certification requires completing a Medical Questionnaire, passing a Pulmonary Function Test, Fit Test and compliance with the guidelines of the District’s Respiratory Protection Program. within 60 Days
- Required - Employee(s) in this position are covered under the Department of Transportation Operator Qualification (OQ) Rule, thus must acquire and maintain qualifications for all covered tasks assigned to this position under the District’s Operator Qualification Plan. Upon Hire

- Install and repair water valves, hydrants, air reliefs, vaults and main breaks.
- Operate valves and hydrants, break pavement with pneumatic paving breaker, excavate worksites, climb ladders, dig dirt by hand, remove manhole lids, flush hydrants, cut pipe, assemble fittings and transport materials and equipment to and from the worksite.
- Frequently enter vaults, trenches, and other difficult to access locations in order to perform work.
- Prepares and joins pipes and fittings to ensure proper fit and function.
- Backfill, tamp and restore excavations to proper compaction and to original condition.
- Direct traffic with the use of flag(s) to safely divert traffic away from work area(s).
- Operate a variety of District equipment and vehicles, to include trucks with manual transmissions.
- Perform the physical requirements of position.
- Assist crew members as directed to ensure work performed is completed effectively and in accordance with established procedures and standards.
