Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs and oversees Metro Ports, union, and subcontracted maintenance personnel across assigned sites. (Galveston, Houston, and Corpus Christi)
- Manages labor, equipment, materials, and schedules for all maintenance activities.
- Leads orientation, training, goal setting, and performance management for staff and contractors.
- Assesses and develops direct reports through structured practices and feedback.
- Collaborates daily with Terminal Manager to align maintenance and operational priorities.
- Coordinates with Operations to plan and adjust maintenance activities based on budget constraints.
- Participates in facility budget development and monitor maintenance-related expenditures.
- Fosters a positive team dynamic between Maintenance and Operations teams.
- Ensures continuous training and development of site associates.
- Partners with Human Resources to manage employee performance and complete reviews.
- Supervises subcontractor relationships and work execution.
- Enforces safety standards and ensure use of personal protective equipment per OSHA requirements.
- Maintains compliance with environmental regulations and EH&S standards.
- Prepares for and attend regulatory inspections.
- Ensures accurate documentation of maintenance plans, schedules, and work orders.
- Maintains manuals, SOPs, and workflow documentation.
- Manages inventory of site supplies and critical spare parts.
- Collaborates with engineering to improve system efficiency and consistency
- Performance Goal: Achieve 98% on-time completion of scheduled maintenance tasks and maintain 100% compliance with EH&S documentation standards within the first 12 months.
- Maintains availability for variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and emergency response; travels to outlying ports as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the National Director, Maintenance Operations
Required:
- Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college.
- Experience: 7–10 years of supervisory experience in industrial maintenance or operations.
- Certifications: Must meet applicable state trade licensing requirements,
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license; valid TWIC card or ability to obtain and maintain.
- Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of facilities maintenance operations.
- Familiarity with EH&S regulations and OSHA standards.
- Working knowledge of CMMS systems (Maximo preferred) and energy management systems.
- Understanding of maintenance documentation and workflow processes.
- Awareness of collective bargaining agreements and labor relations.
- Skills:
- Proficient in managing maintenance teams and subcontractors.
- Skilled in scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Effective communicator across departments and with external agencies.
- Capable of interpreting technical manuals, diagrams, and safety documentation.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to produce high-quality work under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Preferred:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or related field
- Additional Experiences: Experience in marine terminal operations or multi-site maintenance leadership.
- Knowledge:
- Familiarity with project planning and cost estimation.
- Understanding of regulatory inspection preparation and compliance tracking.
- Skills:
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and foster interdepartmental collaboration.
- Experience with vendor negotiation and contract oversight.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Physical Demands: The physical demands described here represent those that are typically required to perform the essential functions of this position. This role requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds. It may involve regular exposure to outdoor environments and active work sites. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required depending on the task. Some positions may require travel between job sites.
