Assistant Supervisor Plants and Pumps

Overview

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with the supervision of work crews in the operation, maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment plants and/or pump stations
  • Visits job sites to review maintenance and repair progress
  • Assists the investigation of electrical and mechanical problems to help determine necessary corrective repairs and/or to help apply preventive remedies
  • Periodically inspects plant/pump station buildings, machinery, roads and grounds, etc. for housekeeping and for completed and necessary repairs
  • Monitors adjustments to plant process
  • Prepares and maintains detailed records, reports and diagrams
  • Writes work orders and develops job plans
  • Review completed work orders and requests for follow-up work
  • Requisitions material, parts, tools and supplies
  • Instruct and monitor employees in safety methods and procedures
  • Assist supervisor with assigned tasks
  • Involved in training programs as mentor and facilitator, and updates training material with current methods, materials and technology
  • Generate data
  • Routinely meets with general public, utility representatives, contractors, etc.
  • Coordinates and assigns work to outside vendors and contractors
  • Performs the duties of supervisor as required.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training and Experience:
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Completion of 30 college credit hours from an accredited college/university
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment plants and pump stations.

Desirable Knowledge. Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of machinery, equipment, materials and operating practices of a modern wastewater treatment plant and pump stations
  • Considerable knowledge of the chemical, physical and biological processes involved in the treatment of wastewater
  • Considerable knowledge of safe working practices and ability to demonstrate, train, and correct others in these practices
  • Considerable knowledge of District policies and standards
  • Working knowledge of (CMMS) asset management
  • Microsoft Office Products, Oracle Fusion, UKG, and other related operation software
  • Ability to supervise the work of others and deal effectively with the public
  • Ability to build teams and evaluate employees performance
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely
  • Considerable ability to maintain detailed records and prepare oral or written reports
  • Ability to read facility plans and related drawings
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which the employee resides.

Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures," this position has been designated as safety sensitive and candidate must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying this position are not subject to Federal (D.O.T.) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.
