Job Functions:

The Seasonal Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for creating an exceptional volunteer experience throughout the holiday season by supporting volunteer recruitment, placement, orientation, stewardship, engagement, and evaluation efforts. This position serves as a welcoming ambassador for Metropolitan Ministries, ensuring volunteers, community partners, and guests feel valued, informed, and connected to the mission while supporting holiday operations across the Tampa Bay area.


Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Provide a warm, welcoming, and hospitable experience for volunteers, visitors, and community groups while delivering excellent customer service in alignment with Metropolitan Ministries' values and Metro Spirit standards.
  2. Manage volunteer check-in, registration, and scheduling processes utilizing the Volunteer Management System; assist volunteers with account setup, registration, and service opportunities.
  3. Coordinate volunteer placements to ensure appropriate staffing for holiday programs, special events, and service opportunities throughout Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties.
  4. Facilitate volunteer orientations and training sessions, communicating organizational mission, expectations, safety procedures, and service assignments.
  5. Build positive relationships with individual volunteers, volunteer leaders, and community groups to enhance engagement, retention, and long-term connection to Metropolitan Ministries.
  6. Assist in supporting Holiday Volunteer Leaders to meet seasonal volunteer needs.
  7. Partner with ministry departments to assess volunteer needs, develop meaningful service opportunities, and ensure volunteers are effectively deployed to support operational goals.
  8. Serve alongside Holiday teams at community sites throughout Tampa Bay, providing volunteer support and representing Metropolitan Ministries in the community.
  9. Support volunteer stewardship efforts through recognition activities, appreciation events, impact sharing, and follow-up communication.
  10. Collect volunteer feedback and assist with volunteer evaluations, surveys, and reporting to identify opportunities to enhance the volunteer experience and improve program effectiveness.
  11. Maintain accurate volunteer records, participation data, service hours, and engagement metrics.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. Experience in customer service, volunteer coordination/management or related background.  


Skills Requirements:

Heart for ministry and comfort working with poor and homeless individuals and families. Highly computer literate with strong background with word processing, PowerPoint, spreadsheet, database, and e-mail software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to work both independently as an energetic self-starter and within a multi-disciplinary framework. Ability to articulate Metropolitan Ministries’ mission, program, and needs to the community to both individuals and large groups. Excellent organizational skills, high attention to detail, ability to plan events and maintain systems in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Demonstrates maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith, culture, and other sources of diversity.


Physical Requirements:

Hearing and speaking ability which allows for effective oral communication. Physical, emotional and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress. Ability to walk and climb stairs and to lift 30 lbs. Physically able to work in outdoor/temporary shelter environment considering the local climate and its normal fluctuations.


Other:

Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must have reliable transportation for community site visits with mileage reimbursement provided. Must pass applicable pre-employment background screening. While overall 40 hours/week must have the ability to accommodate a flexible work schedule during the holidays (October-December), on weekends, evenings, and special events. Bilingual preferred but not required.
