The Parks & Recreation Superintendent - Structures & Custodial is a full-time Civil Service position in the Metro Parks and Recreation department. The primary duties of this position consist of directing & overseeing the Structures team responsible for custodial, construction, maintenance, and repair of Parks facilities and infrastructure, including buildings, bridges, docks, and related structures. This position will also manage capital projects, operational expenditures, and field operations for skilled trades staff including carpenters, masons, painters, locksmiths, and custodial personnel.
This position will be required to work weekends and/or after normal business hours as needed.
Metro’s Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of facilities and programs throughout Davidson County. Currently, the department oversees nearly 16,000 acres of open space, including 184 parks and 107 miles of greenway. - Advises on cost-effectiveness of projects.
- Assists with planning short- and long-range maintenance and construction projects.
- Oversees administration of the Structures budget.
- Administers personnel policies and makes recommendations for disciplinary action as needed.
- Reviews and develops technical, statistical, and narrative reports.
- Prepares and transmits communications, instructions, and expectations to subordinates.
- Plans, organizes, controls, and evaluates work activities of the Structures team.
- Performs routine inspections and onsite visits to monitor projects.
- Evaluates staff procedures on a continuous basis; recommends and implements improvements where necessary.
- Reviews employee evaluations.
- Directs and oversees all maintenance, construction, and repair activities in area of responsibility.
- Determines priorities and establishes scheduling for maintenance or repair activities.
- Analyzes cost, labor availability, and equipment needs for establishing project priorities and schedules.
- Coordinates with department’s emergency response team.
Two (2) years of college from an accredited college or university and seven (7) years of construction or maintenance and repair experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
