What are the responsibilities and job description for the Painter position at Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County?
The Painter position is a full-time Civil Service position in the Metro Parks and Recreation department. This position performs skilled work involved in the prepping and applying coating materials such as paint, varnish, epoxy finishes, and sealers on wood, metal, pavement, concrete, and other surfaces on the interior and exterior of buildings and structures.
The job requires working in all types of weather, being capable of some strenuous labor involving bending, lifting, climbing, etc., and possiblyworking around irritant chemicals.
Metro’s Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of facilities and programs throughout Davidson County. Currently, the department oversees nearly 16,000 acres of open space, including 184 parks and 107 miles of greenway. Metro Parks offers after school programs for children, activities for seniors (55 ), cultural arts classes, dog parks, fitness classes, nature programs, sports leagues, ice hockey, art galleries, and much more. It is the mission of Metro Parks and Recreation to sustainably and equitably provide everyone in Davidson County with an inviting network of parks and greenways that offer health, wellness and quality of life through recreation, conservation and community.
- Preparing and finishing surfaces for painting.
- Appling various coatings, epoxies, and sealers.
- Removing scale, rust, dirt, and old paint from surfaces as needed.
- Thinning, stirring, mixing, blending, and matching various coating materials.
- Installing drywall and prepping areas for painting.
- Operating metro vehicles and equipment safely.
- Sanding, scraping, spackling, and putting surfaces.
- Erecting scaffolding and safety devices.
- Performing project estimates.
- Assisting in general maintenance work.
- Maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Keeping records of coatings used in buildings and structures and dates work completed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Eighth Grade Education and two (2) years of painting experience.
LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid Driver's License
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
- Experience in the proper method for applying sealers and epoxies.
- Experience with a variety of proper tools for a variety of painting surfaces.
- Experience reading and interpreting directions and estimate materials and labor.
