STRIDE is a non-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a  history of providing primary care and other health-related services in a community-based setting. What will you be doing in this role? A successful candidate will:

General Purpose: In order to provide a quality medical clinic experience in terms of service and patient relations the Medical Front Desk Support will perform a number of duties, including greeting and scheduling patients and visitors, bookkeeping, calling patients to remind them of appointments, handling billing, answering and routing calls, making transactions, and keeping paperwork organized.  

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensures patient privacy and confidentiality with each encounter
  • Maintains charts, files, and logs necessary for patient reception
  • Accomplishes daily batching of encounter forms
  • Ordering and inventory of front office supplies as needed
  • Maintains reception/lobby area supplies (i.e. patient information pamphlets, patient admission forms, etc.)
  • Assists in the training of front desk personnel
  • Assists in Medical Records duties as needed
  • Directs patients to Financial Intake as needed
  • Acts as liaison between patients and Billing Department regarding charges, payments, and insurance
  • Demonstrates professional behavior with the public, patients and peers at all times
  • Demonstrates a high level of understanding of HIPAA and OSHA regulations
  • Answers and returns all calls in a timely manner; assesses callers' needs and directs to appropriate personnel when required
  • Schedules patient appointments in a productive and efficient manner
  • Promptly and accurately updates patient records including financial and demographic information
  • Promptly coordinates scheduling of new patient referrals, gathers necessary information, and schedules appointment accordingly
  • Creates and distributes new patient welcome folders
  • Accurately collects co-pays, deductibles and other out of pocket expenses at time of visit
  • Follows up with patients to reschedule any missed appointments
  • Works closely and communicates consistently with internal and external staff to ensure continuity of care
  • Efficiently handles multiple clerical/administrative tasks in a fast paced environment and is able to learn new skills quickly
  • Covers for and supports other front office operations as requested
  • Helps keep and maintain waiting room neat and tidy at all times

Non-Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Attends all staff meetings and all other meetings as assigned.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications


 A successful candidate will possess the following education or formal training

Education or Formal Training:  High school diploma/GED required (Associate degree preferred)

A successful candidate will possess experience:.

Experience: One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  1+ years’ experience working front desk in a medical setting preferred.

Knowledge, skill and ability:

  • Ability to interact positively and build rapport with patients, coworkers and/or external contacts.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks based on importance.
  • Ability to work independently and organize work in a manner that ensures accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to demonstrate the capability to effectively and sensitively respond to the needs and concerns of the full range of STRIDE’s diverse patient population.
  • Customer service skills, including the ability to diffuse upset patients.
  • Basic math skills required; a basic understanding of accounting helpful.
  • Skill in using a variety of computer software including but not limited to the internet and MS Office Products.
  • Ability to identify barriers to performance of other and provide coaching, training or other assistance to remove those barriers.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information ethically and responsibly.
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of patient, employee and business information.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with others effectively.

Material and equipment directly used: Computer, printer, multi-line telephone systems, fax machine, copy machine, calculator, and all Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, internet and the Electronic Medical Records system.

Working environment/physical activities: Office environment within a clinical setting.  Enters data into computer programs via computer, mouse and keyboard.  Moves about the office environment and occasionally to other locations.   Moves/transports objects up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 75 lbs occasionally to various locations throughout the metro area. Communicates information to others.  Discerns/analyzes information from others to assist in decision making.
