Engineering Manager – Substations

Our client is looking for an experienced Technical Project Engineering Manager to join their growing Power Delivery team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering leader with a strong technical background in substation design and a passion for delivering complex utility infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring high-quality technical delivery, and acting as the primary technical point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical execution of substation engineering projects for major investor-owned utility (IOU) clients.
- Take ownership of project deliverables, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Provide technical leadership and direction to multidisciplinary engineering teams, including Substation Physical Design and Protection & Control (P&C).
- Work closely with the assigned Project Manager to manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and client expectations.
- Coordinate engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project execution and successful client outcomes.
- Support project planning, technical reviews, risk management, and quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Foster strong client relationships while maintaining a high level of technical excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
- Proven experience delivering large transmission and substation projects for an engineering consulting firm serving investor-owned utilities.
- Strong background in both Substation Physical Design and Protection & Control (P&C).
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Previous project lead experience with exposure to project schedules, budgets, and resource management.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.
