Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction (Washington DC - Baltimore)
Metric Geo is partnering with a leading heavy civil contractor in Washington DC - Baltimore to hire an experienced Estimator to support continued growth across major earthwork, utility, site development, and roadway projects statewide.
This is a long-term, full-time role with a stable and well-respected contractor that self-performs the majority of its work. The company is known for a strong pipeline of DOT, municipal, and private site development projects, excellent leadership, and a culture that values collaboration and professional development.
🔹 Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for heavy civil projects including:
- Earthwork and mass grading
- Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm)
- Roadway & highway construction
- Site development for commercial and industrial projects
- Review project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and addenda to determine scope.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using estimating and takeoff software.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Develop clear and comprehensive cost structures, including materials, labor, equipment, production rates, and risk factors.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as needed.
- Partner with project management and field operations to support bid strategies and value engineering.
- Transition awarded bids into executed projects and assist with estimating-to-operations handoff.
- Maintain historical cost data and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes.
🔹 Qualifications
- 5–10 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
- Strong understanding of site development, grading, utilities, and roadway scopes.
- Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam, or similar software (preferred but not required).
- Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, specs, and geotechnical reports.
- Strong math, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work independently on multiple estimates and deadlines.
- Field experience (Superintendent, Project Engineer, or Project Manager) is a strong plus.
