Location: Louisville, KY
About the Opportunity
We are representing an established engineering consultancy in the search for a Senior Roadway Project Manager to join its transportation team in the Louisville, Kentucky market.
This role is focused specifically on local and municipal transportation projects, rather than major highway infrastructure. - Develop project scopes, identify client needs and help determine appropriate project solutions.
- Meet with clients and municipalities to discuss projects, understand requirements and develop project approaches.
- Prepare fee estimates, scopes of work and project documentation.
- Manage project deliverables and coordinate engineers, designers and other technical staff.
- Provide technical oversight of roadway design and construction documents.
- Work with clients and internal teams to move projects from initial concept through final design and construction documentation.
- Support projects involving street improvements, roadway widening, pavement rehabilitation and infrastructure upgrades.
- Contribute to multimodal transportation projects, including bike lanes, trails and pedestrian improvements.
- Coordinate transportation improvements involving traffic signals, traffic operations and intersection capacity.
- Work with local and state transportation agencies and ensure designs meet applicable DOT standards and requirements.
- Serve as a project-level leader, taking responsibility for coordinating delivery without necessarily owning full project financial management.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
Ideal Background
- 8–12 years of roadway/transportation engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) preferred/required depending on level.
- Strong experience with local roadway and municipal transportation projects.
- Experience working with DOT standards and requirements; KYTC experience is highly desirable.
- Background in roadway design, street improvements and transportation infrastructure.
- Experience with some combination of:
- Local roads and urban streets
- Street widening and rehabilitation
- Pavement improvements
- Bike lanes and multimodal facilities
- Trails and pedestrian infrastructure
- Traffic signals and traffic operations
- Intersection/capacity improvements
- Ability to work beyond purely technical design, including project scoping, planning, client meetings and fee estimates.
- Comfortable acting as a Project Manager, coordinating deliverables and keeping projects moving.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills.
- No significant business development responsibility — this is primarily a project delivery and client coordination role.
- Candidates located in Louisville, Southern Indiana/New Albany, or Lexington are encouraged to apply.
Opportunity
This position would suit an experienced Roadway Engineer or Project Manager who wants to move beyond simply producing designs and take greater ownership of project planning, scoping, client interaction and delivery.
The ideal person will be technically strong but also enjoy sitting down with municipalities and clients, understanding what they need, helping scope the work, developing a fee and then seeing the project through to construction documents and delivery.
