Estimator - Heavy Civil Construction - St. Louis, MO
Metric Geo are partnered with a large regional contractor on the search for a Heavy Civil Estimator. The right candidate will support preconstruction and business development efforts across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects. This role will lead or support estimates for roadway, bridge, concrete, grading, drainage, and other heavy civil projects for public and private clients. The ideal candidate will have strong estimating expertise, a deep understanding of construction means and methods, and experience developing competitive bid strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to identify project scope, risks, and opportunities.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs, pricing, and detailed cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
- Develop and evaluate bid strategies, value engineering options, and alternative construction methods.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure complete and competitive pricing.
- Utilize historical cost data and production rates to support accurate estimates.
- Coordinate with operations, field teams, and stakeholders to develop winning proposals.
- Prepare RFIs, bid packages, and final proposal submissions.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and estimating reviews.
- Support project handoff, buyout activities, and budget development following award.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- 10 years of estimating, project management, or related heavy civil construction experience.
- Experience estimating self-performed heavy civil work including earthwork, concrete, structures, drainage, and roadway projects.
- Knowledge of federal, DOT, municipal, and alternative delivery projects (Design-Build, CM/GC)
- Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and scheduling software; AGTEK experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of production analysis, equipment selection, subcontractor evaluation, and cost modeling.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple pursuits and deadlines simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
