The organization is in a continued growth phase and is seeking an experienced Director of Purchasing to lead procurement, estimating, and vendor management across its homebuilding operations.
About the Role
This is a key leadership position responsible for driving purchasing strategy, cost efficiency, and trade partner performance across residential construction projects. You will play a critical role partnering with Construction, Design, Sales, and Finance to ensure homes are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with operational and financial goals
- Lead sourcing, negotiation, and management of subcontractors, suppliers, and trade partners
- Oversee estimating accuracy for new homes, options, and community-specific plans
- Analyze cost data, vendor proposals, and market trends to drive strategic decision-making
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with trade partners and ensure performance standards are consistently met
- Collaborate with Construction and Finance teams to forecast material needs and manage budgets
- Develop bid packages, scopes of work, and maintain pricing and cost databases
- Implement and optimize just-in-time delivery processes to improve efficiency and cash flow
- Lead, mentor, and develop a purchasing and estimating team
- Ensure compliance with building codes, safety requirements, and company standards
What We’re Looking For
- 7 years of purchasing experience in residential construction
- At least 3 years in a leadership role within a production or semi-custom homebuilding environment
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- Deep knowledge of residential construction materials, trades, and scopes of work
- Experience with construction management systems (Buildertrend, BuildPro, or similar)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
