Position Summary

The International Admissions Counselor serves as a key point of contact for both domestic and international prospective students, with a primary focus on international student recruitment, admissions counseling, and enrollment support. Reporting to the Director of the Global Education Office (GEO), this position supports the university’s global initiatives while collaborating closely with the undergraduate admissions team to align strategies and processes across audiences. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, culturally competent, and able to build meaningful relationships across diverse populations.

This role includes significant recruitment travel domestically and internationally, as well as close coordination with faculty, partner organizations, and support services to ensure a smooth and welcoming student experience from inquiry through enrollment.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

International & Domestic Recruitment (60%)

  • Represent Methodist University to prospective international and domestic students through high school visits, college fairs, education expos, virtual events, and school counselor outreach.
  • Travel 4–6 weeks annually internationally (plus domestic travel during peak seasons).
  • Develop and manage recruitment territory that includes key domestic and international markets.
  • Establish relationships with international agents, embassies, schools, and sponsoring organizations.
  • Collaborate with the GEO and Admissions team to design and execute recruitment strategies, including lead generation and yield campaigns.
  • Counsel students and families through the admissions process, including requirements, scholarships, visas, and arrival planning.
  • Assist with international articulation agreements and partner-school pipelines.

Application Review & Admissions Processing (15%)

  • Review and evaluate undergraduate applications for international and domestic students in line with university policies.
  • Work with admissions and GEO colleagues to manage the international student enrollment funnel.
  • Assist in issuing I-20s and support visa processing in collaboration with the Designated School Officials (DSOs).

Campus Engagement and Student Communication (15%)

  • Coordinate campus visits for prospective international students and groups.
  • Conduct individual and group information sessions, both in-person and virtually.
  • Liaise with the Student Ambassador Program and support ambassador training specific to engaging global audiences.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of student engagement platforms such as ZeeMee, WhatsApp, or others popular with international audiences.
  • Help coordinate GEO-led student events, such as orientation, cultural programming, and international welcome sessions.

Administrative and Cross-Cultural Support (10%)

  • Support the Assistant Director and Director of GEO with student support services including international orientation, SEVIS compliance, and cultural adjustment resources.
  • Maintain knowledge of international admissions trends, visa and immigration regulations, and global education policy.
  • Participate in the development and execution of GEO and Admissions Office events.
  • Maintain accurate records in the CRM and contribute to regular reporting.

Qualifications


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; experience working with international student populations or admissions preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be added to the University’s driver list.
  • Valid US passport.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 6 weeks per year).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including cross-cultural communication.
  • Comfortable learning and using CRM/SIS systems and digital communication tools.
  • Experience in student advising, recruitment, or program coordination.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed during travel and peak periods.

Preferred:

  • Experience living, working, or studying abroad.
  • Fluency in a second language.
  • Familiarity with F-1 visa regulations, SEVIS, and international admissions documentation.
  • Participation in professional associations (NAFSA, NCAIE, IACAC, etc.)
