What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor position at METHODIST UNIVERSITY INC?
Full time, 11-month position
The counseling office is open to all undergraduate and graduate students for short-term therapy and/or referrals to outside providers. The counselor should be familiar with a variety of theoretical frameworks as well as issues common to traditional-age college students. This position requires competency in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, as well as an awareness of the needs of a diverse student population. Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to college students
- Independently complete intake paperwork, session notes and treatment plans
- Maintain own schedule, client lists and statistics
- Schedule and facilitate educational workshops as needed
- Attend individual and group supervision
- Create and facilitate any appropriate groups or programing for students
- Proactively collaborate with University-wide departments, faculty, and staff as needed
- Assist in fostering an environment of inclusion, belonging, and mutual respect among a diverse student body
- Collaborates with faculty, staff, and/or University offices to provide programs and resources in support of University-wide wellbeing initiatives
- Master's degree is required, preferably in counseling, counseling, or related field
- Licensed to practice in North Carolina; LCMHC or LCMHCA (LPC or LPCA)
- LCSW or LCSWA preferred
- 2-5 years post graduate clinical experience
- Preference for experience with college-age population; short term treatment; and/or provision of talk therapy
