What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Specialist position at Metalsa?

MISSION

Provide direction for all aspects related to safety and the environment in the facility. Ensure all employees are following safe work habits; ensure compliance with all safety and environment initiatives and legal requirements.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITY

Work with different departments to identify hazards and opportunities for safety improvements

Investigate all incidents and accidents to determine root cause analysis

Coordinate and lead various training sessions

Coordinate, participate in and coach operations team by attending meetings, conducting facility inspections and incident investigations

Complete inspection audits in operational processes and operational equipment to ensure safety standards are being met

Coordinate efforts of consultants with manufacturing and maintenance and tooling schedules

Promote team involvement activities to improve systems used in the production area to increase efficiency

Track incident data and provide trends to operational teams – KPI tracking

Additional responsibilities as required – this position is subject to change as the needs of the department change

Be proactively involved in improving working conditions

Offer ideas for improvement of all systems and help implement them

Lead area in achieving plant Quality objectives/goals

100% on-time delivery to the customer

Target 0 PPM on parts for all our customers (Metalsa and customer standard: 25 or less PPM)

Understand customer needs and work towards meeting and exceeding them

Housekeeping

Maintain the appearance of a World-Class Facility

Actively support full implementation of the 5S’s, using it to approach and keep all areas clean, neat, and properly maintained

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 1-3 years of experience OR 3-5 years of experience in Health & Safety

Must complete training in post-employment and individual department specified training

EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of industry experience OR 3-5 years of experience in the Health & Safety field

Administrative Skills

Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, planning, team orientation, and people skill developer

Good organization and time management skills

Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude

Identify problem-solving initiatives

Ability to manage effectively under any situation – capable of performing in a fast-paced, high-stress environment

Technical Skills

Understanding of automated manufacturing process

Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

Good understanding of OSHA/EPA ANSI

Hazardous waste management knowledge

Chemical handling and storage experience

Proper use, limitations, and disposal of PPE

Hazards identification and risk assessment
