What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Engineer II position at Metal Technologies?
General Summary:
This position will facilitate the maintenance, adjustment, and expansion of MTI’s PLC based machine control and data collection functions.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Management and Implementation of PLC Control Systems at all MTI Locations
- PLC programming and communication – changes, new programs, signal exchange
- HMI interfacing – Control screens, programming, troubleshooting
- Data Collection and Manipulation
- New equipment Installations – Electrical/Controls design, PLC Planning, I/O, Rack Layouts, etc.
- Assist operations personnel in project start-ups and controls / electrical troubleshooting.
- Work with IT to maintain, expand, and assure uptime on the entire OT network and company infrastructure.
- Exploration and implementation of alternative control systems / data collection possibilities.
- Project management of capital improvements at all facilities.
- Participate in capital planning / improvements at all facilities.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:
- Must have working knowledge of a wide variety of controls hardware – Relay logic, PLCs, Frequency Drives, Soft Starters, etc. Allen Bradley is the PLC platform of MTI which includes a range including the following families: PLC5, SLC500, MicroLogix, Compact, and ControlLogix.
- Must be proficient in controls and programming software for the variety of previously listed hardware.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Able to manage multiple tasks at a time while staying organized and focused.
- Understands and can meet deadline-oriented business transactions.
- Works well with others and supports a team-oriented environment.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills to interact with a wide variety of individuals within MTI.
- Must be willing to travel and support MTI facilities both domestic and international.
Preferred Additional Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of DH .
- Robotics experience.
- Vision System experience.
- Knowledge of 480 voltage systems and distribution.
- Working knowledge of utility systems (water, air, etc.).
Working Conditions:
The Controls Engineer II will reside in the office, however, will be in the plant occasionally. Must be able to adhere to conditions of the plant.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years of hands-on Industrial PLC experience and responsibility in a manufacturing environment.
- AB programming training
- Associate’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field (Preferred but not required).
