What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Labeling Analyst III position at Meta?
Job Title: Data labelling Analyst III
ABOUT THE TEAM:
The Business Compromise team within Meta's Business Integrity org is focused on understanding how fraud and abuse is perpetrated on Meta business products. Our mission is to protect people and businesses who use Meta products by disrupting and preventing abusive networks and behaviors. We focus on new problem identification, early-stage investigation and risk understanding, and mitigation and disruption of sophisticated bad actors. We work closely with partners in Engineering, Data Science, and Product to understand risks and develop mitigations qualitatively and quantitatively — tackling problems including business account takeovers, techniques for scaling harm, recidivism, and circumvention.
JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytically minded Business Compromise Analyst to join the Access & Compromise team as a Contingent Worker (Contract). In this role, you will investigate and resolve compromised Business Manager (BM) accounts, conduct root cause analyses into fraudulent behavior, and annotate/label Meta's Large Language Models (LLMs) to improve the accuracy of AI-driven enforcement.
Your day-to-day will involve closing out investigation tickets, performing exploratory root cause analyses, running ad-hoc investigations (e.g., "how many accounts were abused and lost $2K or less?"), and labeling AI model outputs to improve detection accuracy. The impact of your work is substantial — outcomes directly affect the billions of people and businesses who use Meta products.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in investigative, data-driven environments and wants to contribute to making Meta a safer place while working with high-level stakeholders and being involved in early data-driven decisions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Compromised Account Investigation: Investigate, review, and resolve Business Manager (BM) compromised accounts as identified by Meta's systems, adhering to defined SLA targets (90-minute initiation, 30-minute to 2-hour resolution depending on case type).
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Conduct retrospective deep-dive analyses into the root causes of fraudulent behavior, identifying product vulnerabilities, process gaps, and patterns of abuse.
- Ad-hoc Investigations: Investigate cases and appeals on an ad-hoc basis — analyzing datasets to identify meaningful signals, patterns, and the scope of abuse (e.g., quantifying affected accounts and financial impact).
- LLM Annotation & Labeling: Annotate and label Meta's Large Language Models according to Meta-provided guidelines and parameters, comparing expert labels against new model outputs to improve enforcement decisioning accuracy and reliability.
- Data Analysis: Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and signals that correlate with fraud and abuse, informing investigation strategies and team priorities.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with engineering, product, and operations teams to communicate findings, inform strategic investment, and develop solutions to mitigate abuse at scale.
- Reporting & Metrics: Contribute to consolidated bi-weekly status reports including team velocity, work completed, work in progress, and performance metrics.
- Process Adherence & Improvement: Follow documented SOPs and decision criteria while identifying opportunities to improve investigation workflows and labeling accuracy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years of experience performing open-ended analysis and developing practical business insights and recommendations in fraud investigation, trust & safety, account security, or a related field.
- 1+ year of experience performing data analysis and building queries/reports with SQL or other tools without dedicated data science support.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes of fraudulent behavior.
- Ability to think critically and qualify assessments with strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to own tasks independently, navigate complex problem areas, and work cross-functionally with little supervision.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly when applying labeling guidelines and annotation parameters.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information (including PII) with discretion.
- Ability to work within defined SLAs in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Intelligence Studies, Cybersecurity, Mathematics, or Statistics.
- Demonstrated experience working with Python, PHP, R, SQL, or similar scripting languages for ad-hoc analytical tasks.
- Experience working in online fraud investigations, trust and safety, or cybersecurity.
- Experience with AI/ML data labeling or annotation workflows.
- Familiarity with account compromise patterns, social engineering tactics, or Business Manager ecosystems.
- Experience mitigating time-sensitive escalations.
- Ability to think like the adversary and anticipate threat actors' tactics.
- Ability to work with a team spanning multiple locations/time zones.
EMPLOYEE VALUE PROPOSITION (EVP):
- Impact at scale: Making Meta a safer place for billions of users and businesses.
- Stakeholder visibility: Working directly with high-level stakeholders across Engineering, Data Science, and Product.
- Data-driven influence: Be involved in early data-driven decisions that shape enforcement strategy.
- Growth opportunity: Opportunity to grow skills and take on bigger investigative projects over time.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities, adapting to changes and prioritizing competing requests.
- There may be instances requiring meetings and/or work outside prescribed hours to account for collaboration with global teams in different time zones.
- This role involves handling sensitive account data and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) subject to strict confidentiality requirements.
- No access to production environments under this scope.
