Position Summary
- The Accounting Specialist is responsible for supporting daily operational accounting transactions and assisting with reporting and compliance. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial integrity by handling transactions, reconciliations, and documentation in accordance with Meta House policies and accounting standards. The Specialist will report to the Accounting Manager and will support all areas of Meta House finances.
Position Responsibilities Description
- Accounting Transaction Reporting- Complete day-to-day financial transactions including accounts payable/receivable, cash flow, and expense and credit card transactional reporting. Maintain accounts payable and credit expense database (currently Bill.com) including reviewing and ensuring proper coding of vendor invoices and expenses, responsible for reporting and reconciling
- Budget and Grant Management – Assist in budget monitoring as daily transactions occur. Confirm general ledger coding on invoices received for payment; assist with preparation of grant budgets and monitor performance against same through reporting and tracking
- Policies & Procedures - Update financial policies and procedures developed by the Accounting Manager with the intent to ensure strong internal controls and regulatory compliance. Maintain clear documentation of finance-related transactions and procedures for continuity of operations, audit readiness, and staff reference. Look for areas with room for improved efficiency and communicate this with the Accounting Manager.
- Billing & Receivables – In collaboration with the Billing Team and 3rd party consultants, assist with client services billing, denials management, and any other revenue collections related activity. This may include the preparation of invoices for different agency programs, monitoring other revenue sources, and other billing activities and tracking
- Assist with month-end activities, tax filings, payroll support, and/or bank reconciliations
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Some college or relevant work experience.
Preferred:
- Obtained or pursuing associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience processing financial transactions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, billing, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs)
- Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)
- Experience with Accounting software (SAP, PeopleSoft, Intacct)
- Ability to type proficiently and perform some data entry
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Commit to the organization’s mission, vision, and guiding principles
- Dedication to improving processes and systems while maintaining the integrity of financial information
- Knowledge of federal grant compliance a plus

- Visually identify clients and others for reasons including, but not limited to security, presence in the building.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license preferred
- Access to personal vehicle for work purposes preferred
