Position Summary
The Quality Assurance Specialist supports the Quality Department by maintaining inspection accuracy, coordinating the nonconformance and corrective action processes, and assisting in the development and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS).
This role bridges the gap between the shop floor and the Quality Manager, performing hands-on verification activities, facilitating quality improvement initiatives, and ensuring data and documentation are properly collected, analyzed, and communicated.
The Quality Assurance Specialist ensures that daily quality operations are aligned with company goals and customer requirements while contributing to the long-term development of a robust, data-driven QMS.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Quality Assurance
● Perform in-process and final inspections as required to verify product conformance to print and specification.
● Support First Piece and Sample Inspections in collaboration with Quality Technicians and Layout personnel.
Quality Assurance Specialist
● Maintain accurate inspection records, logs, and dimensional verification reports in accordance with company procedures.
● Support gage calibration tracking and maintenance of gage records.
● Provide shop floor support and training on gauge use, inspection techniques, and defect recognition.
Nonconformance & MRB Coordination
● Maintain and coordinate the Nonconformance Reporting (NCR) process, ensuring all NCRs are properly documented, tracked, and resolved.
● Prepare and organize information for weekly MRB (Material Review Board) meetings, record decisions, and track follow-up actions through completion.
● Communicate dispositions and rework/scrap decisions to appropriate departments and ensure accurate ERP/system updates.
● Support data collection and reporting related to rework, scrap, and defect trends for management review.
Corrective Action (CAR) Process Support
● Maintain and coordinate the Corrective Action (CAR) process to ensure timely investigation, cross-functional participation, and effective closure.
● Facilitate team meetings across Production, Engineering, and Quality to drive root cause and corrective action development.
● Track CAR status, verify supporting evidence, and escalate overdue actions as required.
● Support the Quality Manager in reviewing and validating CAR effectiveness prior to final closure.
System Support & Documentation
● Assist the Quality Manager with maintaining and improving QMS documentation, including procedures, work instructions, forms, and records.
● Ensure proper document control practices are followed (revision management, access control, archival).
● Participate in internal audits and assist with scheduling, documentation, and follow-up.
● Support preparation of PPAP, FAI, and Dimensional Verification Report (DVR) documentation packages as needed.
Data Collection & Analysis
● Collect, organize, and analyze inspection and nonconformance data to identify recurring issues or process improvement opportunities.
● Prepare summary reports and visual data presentations for Management Review and continuous improvement tracking.
● Provide feedback to the Quality Manager and department leads regarding trends, training needs, and potential corrective actions.
Training & Communication
● Support onboarding and training of production personnel in inspection methods, gauge use, and quality procedures.
● Serve as a communication link between shop floor employees, technicians, and management to ensure consistent application of quality standards.
● Promote a culture of quality awareness, data-driven decisions, and proactive problem-solving throughout the organization.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
● Associate’s degree in Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical field preferred.
● Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in quality or manufacturing inspection.
● Proficient with dimensional inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, height gages, CMM, IM, or XM systems).
● Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
● Strong understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T.
● Proficient in Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis tools.
● Experience with ERP systems (JobBoss or similar) preferred.
● Effective communicator, capable of facilitating discussions across multiple departments.
● Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
● Demonstrated ability to identify process gaps and suggest practical improvements.
