Job Summary

The primary function of this position is to serve as a Maintenance Operations Technician III. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Prior experience and advanced skills in either ASU, CO2, or on-site process plant operations with basic skills in another.
  • Prior experience and advanced skills in maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical machinery.
  • Intermediate skills in either process instrumentation and controls or electrical equipment.

Principal Responsibilities

Safety

  • Understand and adhere to company safe work policies.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality programs.
  • Apply the hazardous work permit (HWP) process, lockout-tagout (LOTO) and energy isolation procedures as required for company and contractor personnel.
  • Follow management of change (MOC) procedures for all changes to process and operating procedures.
  • Direct and monitor contractors.
  • Lead and participate in operations, maintenance, and safety meetings.
  • Participate in safety committee activities as required.

Reliability and Maintenance

  • Support plant inventory management efforts.
  • Follow work instructions and annotate with feedback.
  • Set up and safely operate all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned work.
  • Effectively prioritize and schedule all work activities.
  • Perform and document process and product analyzers calibration checks.
  • Instrumentation & Controls (Once Certified):
  • Perform intermediate troubleshooting of instrumentation and control valves.
  • Calibrate, configure, and/or replace field instrumentation devices.
  • Install, commission, and troubleshoot control valves.
  • Implement plant improvement projects involving the installation of new instrumentation, control valves, and analyzers including associated conduit, tubing, and wiring.
  • Perform troubleshooting of process control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair process control equipment.
  • Functionally test or troubleshoot instrument or electrical control loops through field devices to verify proper operation.
  • Electrical (Once Certified):
  • Perform intermediate troubleshooting of electrical systems.
  • Install and repair electrical equipment control circuits.
  • Perform LOTO of electrical systems and confirm zero energy.
  • Mechanical (Once Certified):
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of mechanical equipment (pumps, compressors).
  • Complete advanced mechanical equipment repairs, including invasive teardowns and rebuilds.

Process Operation and Efficiency

  • Lead shutdowns, start-ups, de-rimes, and production state changes for plant(s) in area.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)(SAP).
  • Troubleshoot process problems to identify equipment requiring maintenance.
  • Perform water treatment analysis and associated tasks.
  • Document activities and data in the plant electronic logbook and SAP system.
  • Accept on-call duty and overtime as required.

People / Interpersonal

  • Strong leadership skills that naturally engage others to follow.
  • Maintain open line of communication with manager and other stakeholders.
  • Support new employees and entry-level technicians through coaching and mentoring.

Required Skills

  • Math - Basic algebra, fractions/percentages, unit conversion.
  • Personal computer proficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to support team philosophy and strategy.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work alone.
  • High mechanical aptitude and ability to work with simple mechanic’s hand tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of chemical manufacturing hazards.
  • Familiarity with common process equipment and their functions.
  • Understanding of basic electrical hazards and safety and skills in troubleshooting electrical systems, with support from subject matter experts.
  • Instrumentation: Ability to troubleshoot 4-20 mA transmitter and electro-pneumatic control loops.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs and PFDs.
  • Able to navigate a document management system to find relevant work instructions, forms, and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to complete advanced preventive maintenance tasks according to best practices.
  • Capable of operating a forklift, and/or overhead crane, and/or man lift.
  • Certificate in a technical discipline or recent military training in a technical field.
  • Electrical: Ability to interpret electrical drawings including single-line diagrams.
  • Understanding of trip and interlock logic protecting people and equipment.
  • Instrumentation and Controls: Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic control systems consisting of I/Ps, solenoid valves, quick exhausts, actuators, regulators, and proportional/integral controllers both stand-alone and cascaded.
  • Instrumentation and Electrical: Be familiar with codes and standards associated with wiring and conduit.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience in a related process plant operations, maintenance or reliability activity.
  • Physically able to perform all duties required which may involve among other things; bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, and lifting and carrying loads of up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb to heights 200 ft above grade and work effectively.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Capable of distinguishing different colors.
