Position Summary

The Director of Loss Prevention, Safety & Fleet is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading company-wide safety, compliance, fleet, and loss prevention programs that protect our employees, customers, company assets, and operational resources.

This role provides strategic oversight of occupational safety, transportation compliance, fleet operations, risk management, and security initiatives across all locations. Partnering closely with Operations, Human Resources, and Executive Leadership, the Director ensures compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other applicable regulations while driving continuous improvement, reducing risk, and promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the company’s safety, fleet, and regulatory compliance programs, ensuring compliance with all applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
• Serve as an enthusiastic advocate for a culture of safety by creating energy and engagement through communication, coaching, recognition, and collaboration, helping employees feel valued.
• Develop, implement, communicate, and continuously improve safety, fleet, and compliance policies, procedures, and training programs.
• Ensure driver qualification, Hours of Service, vehicle safety, drug and alcohol testing, CDL compliance, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation (FMCSR) requirements are consistently maintained and monitored.
• Manage safety and compliance training programs for drivers, warehouse personnel, operations teams, and other employees, including CDL, forklift, hazardous materials handling, and regulatory compliance training.
• Conduct safety inspections, facility audits, fleet reviews, and compliance assessments; identify workplace and operational hazards and implement corrective and preventative actions to reduce risk.
• Oversee vehicle inspections, preventative maintenance programs, repair schedules, and fleet safety initiatives to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant fleet operations.
• Investigate vehicle accidents, incidents, safety violations and workplace injuries; determine root causes, develop corrective action plans, and prepare required reports and regulatory filings.
• Manage incident documentation, injury prevention initiatives, return-to-work coordination, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate safety, compliance, driver qualification, fleet, and regulatory records, ensuring timely completion of required reporting, filings, documentation, and record retention requirements.
• Monitor, analyze, and report on safety and fleet performance metrics, trends, audits, and incidents; provide recommendations to leadership to improve compliance, reduce risk, and enhance operational performance.
• Maintain and administer the company’s Emergency Action Plan, Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) Program, Safety Awards Program, Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS), safety signage, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
• Partner with Operations, Branch Management and other business leaders to promote safe work practices, optimize fleet utilization, improve compliance outcomes, and support organizational objectives.
• Represent the company in industry, community, and regulatory safety programs, audits, and inspections.
• Lead, develop, coach, and support safety personnel while assisting with the selection, evaluation, and professional development of team members.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• 5 years of progressive leadership experience in safety, loss prevention, risk management, fleet management, transportation, warehousing, logistics, or moving operations.
• Demonstrated expertise in occupational safety, transportation compliance, fleet safety, and risk management, with comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Strong understanding of FMCSA and DOT driver qualification requirements, Hours of Service regulations, drug and alcohol testing programs, transportation safety standards, and fleet maintenance best practices.
• Proven experience managing liability, insurance, and claims administration programs, including accident investigations, incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate safety and operational data, identify trends, assess risk, and implement effective preventative measures and compliance strategies.
• Ability to maintain accurate regulatory records, manage multiple priorities and deadlines, and ensure timely completion of required reporting and compliance documentation.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively deliver training, communicate regulatory requirements, influence outcomes, and build strong relationships at all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated leadership, team development, and project management capabilities, with experience driving safety initiatives, fostering a culture of accountability, and supporting organizational goals through strategic planning and budgeting.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment while exercising sound judgment, maintaining attention to detail, and balancing safety, compliance, and business objectives.
• Proficiency with fleet management systems, safety management platforms, incident reporting software, and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
