We are expanding and looking for a full-time Mechanical Designer to join our Team. We pride ourselves on maintaining long-term relationships with our customers and are always looking for new ways to serve them better. MESA is a growing, fast paced employee-owned professional services and software provider for clients in the product design and manufacturing industries.

The Designer position is responsible for the creation of 3D Inventor models and drawings and/or 2D AutoCAD or AutoCAD Mechanical drawings. In this position, the Designer works directly with MESA customers who are behind or don’t have the capabilities in house to complete the task. Our customers support a wide variety of industries to include Oil and Gas, Nuclear, Consumer Products, Steel and others. Most projects include, but are not limited to, some combination of Piping and Structural Steel components. This position is 75-85% Inventor and 15-25% AutoCAD.
MAJOR Functions / Responsiblities
- Accurately and efficiently, create and modify parts, assemblies and drawings using Inventor (75-85%) and AutoCAD (15-25%) software.
- Work with the Engineering group to develop and maintain 2D drawings and 3D Inventor models for the design and manufacture of custom, one-of-a-kind tools, and equipment.
- Question and resolve any discrepancies in design with internal team or customer.
- Make all necessary decisions to capture the design and translate that into a model to be used to generate a complete set of shop drawings so the product can be manufactured.
- Work as or with Project Lead to identify trouble areas and resolve them before they become an issue.
- Collaborate with Designers and Engineers to deliver a project.
Job Requirements
- Strong Inventor 3D part and assembly modeling as well as 2D drafting capabilities
- Following procedures, understanding manufacturing, tolerancing, project planning, and Inventor best-practices are secondary required skills.
- Interpret Schematic, P&ID and concept sketches, and models into accurate 3D models using Autodesk Inventor and Vault.
- Ability to apply the industry specific drafting codes and the standard with the specifications of the designs that have been assigned for them
- Additional Software skills – Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Microsoft Outlook and ERP and CRM systems
- Ability to maintain accuracy while meeting tight timelines
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Mechanical Aptitude is a must
- Strong written and verbal communication and follow up skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight is desirable.
- Ability to multitask where as it is possible to have several projects going at once.
- Capacity to be part of Technical Support as needed
- Capable of understanding workload and prioritizing to get the work done on time.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree in Engineering or Computer Aided Drafting.
- Min. 3 Years of experience in mechanical design required.
- Inventor Certified Professional highly desired and/or AutoCAD Certified Professional recommended.
Schedule: Monday to Friday. Onsite at customer (Madison, PA) initially and as project collaboration requires, or MESA office (Crafton, PA). Remote the rest of the time.
