What are the responsibilities and job description for the CTE Criminal Justice position at Merrillville Community School Corporation?

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop instructional objectives for each lesson concerning what students need and should learn and relate them to the courses within the Criminal Justice Program of study.
- Correlate learning activities with instructional objectives and with the maturity and academic level of the students.
- Establish and maintain parent-teacher communications when necessary through conferences, phone calls, and digital resources.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to each student’s emotional and behavioral development; one in which the students can develop a sense of worth and dignity.
- Implement all corporation policies as they relate to the classroom.
- Direct and supervise the conduct of all students in the classroom.
- Requisition all prescribed instructional materials and supplies necessary to complete the academic year.
- Assess student performance, maintain performance record-keeping, and make appropriate instructional decisions based on student performance.
- Establish and Maintain a CTE Program Advisory Committee.
- Establish and coordinate Work-Based Learning opportunities when necessary.
- All other duties as assigned by the building Principal and the Director of CTE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience and knowledge of Criminal Justice, Law, Public Safety, Corrections, Security, and related topics.
- Associates Degree or higher in the field of criminal justice, law enforcement, etc.
- Three or more years of experience in the field of criminal justice, law enforcement, etc.
- Hold or be eligible for appropriate State of Indiana license, including Workplace Specialist
NOTE: NO PRIOR TEACHING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION
- Proven reliability, organization skills, and ability to work well with students, parents and staff.
- Be an advocate for Career &Technical Education and have a desire to help guide students to make viable, realistic career decisions.
