What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yard Equipment Operator, 2nd shift position at Merrill Steel?
Position Summary:
Safely operate heavy machinery to organize materials, load and unload freight, and maintain facility grounds. They are responsible for routine equipment maintenance, inventory organization, and strict compliance with safety protocols.
Second shift operates from 3:30 pm – 3:00 am, Mondays – Thursdays, and Fridays are voluntary. There is a $1.60 night shift premium available immediately. No Saturdays or Sundays.
Skills Required:
· Basic operating knowledge of the Combi-Lift
· Basic operating knowledge of forklifts
· Basic operating knowledge of spotter truck/semi
· Accurately weighs loads, axes and over all gross, on the scale
· Basic knowledge of oversized loads
· Basic knowledge of trucking guidelines and weight distribution
· Basic operating knowledge of overhead crane (lifting, moving, setting down)
· Rigs loads correctly for lifting
· Assists in housekeeping in work area
· Maintains acceptable production level
· Helps maintain the steel yard
· Loading complete loads in staging area or on trailers
· Work with other departments by moving trailers when needed
- Able to work outside in extreme weather conditions
- Able to work in an environment that has paint and thinner fumes
- Not allergic to paints and chemicals
- Able to work in an environment that has some welding fumes

Pay: $60,489.00 - $68,679.00 per year
