What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder/Fabricator position at Merrill Steel?
Position Summary
The Welder/Fabricator role is a key part of the overall production operation. The primary duties include metal-core welding, fabricating, laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting parts for heavy structural steel products. Being AISC certified, it is crucial that the Company’s Welders/Fabricators pay significant attention to detail and can focus on accuracy while checking fabricated pieces assuring quality. Having several years of experience with complex welding procedures and reading complex prints is highly preferred. More experienced Welder/Fabricators can start higher depending on experience. The Company issues air-exchange welding hoods to all welders. There are no road crews.
Technical Skills
- Pass a 2F weld test
- Mechanically inclined
- Able to operate grinders for around 15 hours/week
- Experienced in power tools and forklifts (preferred)
- Able to read a tape measure
Quality / Safety Skills
- Have acute situational awareness
- Able to be trained on and operate overhead cranes
- Equipped with personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Able to lift 80 pounds
