Position Summary

Merjent, Inc. (Merjent), is seeking a Cultural Resources Management Field Intern to join our team of dedicated consultants in Summer 2026. The Cultural Resources Management Intern will help to support Merjent Project Managers with tasks primarily associated with archeological Phase 1 field work for energy infrastructure projects.

This is a full-time, paid, entry-level internship open to students and recent graduates. Ongoing opportunities during the academic year may be available upon successful completion of the summer internship.

Eligible candidates must be able to travel and work remotely on archeological Phase 1 field work throughout the Midwest (IA, IL, MN, ND, and WI). The anticipated compensation for this position is $22/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers with cultural resource management tasks associated with permitting and compliance services to the energy sector (e.g., wind and solar, electric transmission, oil and natural gas transmission and distribution, including renewable natural gas).
  • Support projects that involve analysis of the environmental impacts of proposed energy projects, including analyses to support development of project-specific applications.
  • Support cultural field surveys and associated internal and external reporting.
  • Support administrative functions as needed, including document production.
  • Work with internal Project Managers in a manner that is consistent with Merjent's reputation for excellence.

Required Qualifications And Experience

  • Pursuing or recently completed A. or B.S. or Graduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field.
  • Previous field school experience preferred.
  • Initiative-taker with excellent organizational and task management
  • Ability to adapt quickly and work both in large teams and small field crews.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving
  • Excellent oral communication.
