Director of Nursing (DON)

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and results-driven Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing team in delivering exceptional care to our residents. The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and direction of nursing services while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including Ohio Department of Health and CMS requirements.
Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee all nursing operations within the facility
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality resident-centered care
- Recruit, hire, coach, mentor, and retain nursing staff
- Promote employee engagement and foster a culture of teamwork and accountability
- Monitor clinical outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with CMS regulations, Ohio Department of Health requirements, and facility policies
- Prepare for and participate in state surveys and regulatory inspections
- Monitor infection prevention practices in collaboration with the Infection Preventionist
- Oversee staffing levels to ensure quality care while managing labor costs
- Collaborate with the Administrator, Medical Director, department leaders, and interdisciplinary team
- Review clinical documentation for accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance
- Ensure appropriate medication management and resident safety practices
- Participate in budget planning and monitor nursing department expenditures
- Investigate incidents, complaints, and resident concerns and implement corrective actions as needed
- Lead nursing leadership meetings and participate in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities
- Support ongoing education, competency validation, and leadership development for nursing staff
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio (Required)
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting
- Previous experience as a Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing preferred
- Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, F-Tags, Ohio Department of Health regulations, and survey process
- Demonstrated success in clinical quality improvement and staff leadership
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN preferred (MSN welcomed)
- RAC-CT, CDP, or Infection Prevention certification is a plus
- Experience improving Five-Star Quality Measures
- Experience reducing agency utilization and improving staff retention
