The position requirements include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following: The Project Superintendent will plan, coordinate, and supervise the field operations of projects. Must be able to provide technical direction and be responsible for the safety, productivity, and overall quality of the work. Must be able to establish productivity goals and measure performance, as well as schedule labor, materials, and equipment, including the work of subcontractors.

Merit Construction, Inc. is an award-winning Knoxville based General Construction firm with more than 40 years of experience. We currently have a full-time opening for a Superintendent.
The position requirements include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following: The Project Superintendent will plan, coordinate, and supervise the field operations of projects. Must be able to provide technical direction and be responsible for the safety, productivity, and overall quality of the work. Must be able to establish productivity goals and measure performance, as well as schedule labor, materials, and equipment, including the work of subcontractors.
Responsibilities
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Scheduling – Assist the PM in the development of the overall project schedule. Plan, monitor, and review critical path dates and milestone schedules. Manage the day-to-day activities of the construction project. Coordinate and supervise onsite functions including near-term scheduling that looks ahead a minimum of 6 weeks and material delivery.
- Site Paperwork – Use CMiC to complete day-to-day activities and collaboratively manage projects. Create daily job reports documenting work completed, manpower, weather, project photographs, and other pertinent details. Complete timesheets for all Merit personnel. Complete weekly site safety inspections. Maintain the site chemical list. Complete site-specific Safe Starts with subcontractors and Merit's Safety Director. Conduct weekly Toolbox Talks with sign-in sheets and quizzes coordinated with planned jobsite activities. Complete individual annual safety training via Succeed Safety Training. Track T&M work as approved by the Project Manager. Maintain accurate as-built drawings.
- Manage Construction in Accordance with Documents – Work with owner's representatives and the design team to ensure work meets or exceeds the drawings and specifications. Provide technical assistance including interpretation of drawings and recommending construction methods and equipment. Inspect work in progress to ensure quality workmanship in conformance with contract documents and construction schedules. Understand all contractors' scopes and assure contractors maintain schedules and quality standards meeting contract requirements. Supervise total construction effort to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule. Assist the Project Manager with review of monthly pay requests submitted by contractors and with Change Order review.
- Manage the Construction Site – Responsible for procurement of tools, materials, construction equipment, and certain permanent equipment and delivery at specified times to conform to work schedules. Coordinate work between trades. Assist with contractor disputes, quality control, and schedule coordination. Supervise craft employees and/or other contractors as required. Assume responsibility for productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of the project. Maintain open communication between all contractors to ensure all required materials, equipment, and inspections support project activities and schedule. Perform project close-out and ensure punch list is completed in a timely manner. Secure the jobsite at all times. Coordinate with local building officials on required inspections to secure a certificate of occupancy. Maintain a clean and organized site.
- Safety – Monitor contractor compliance with project safety program requirements. Follow, implement, and enforce safety policies including job safety meetings, proper use of safety equipment, and compliance by subs and suppliers. Ensure all onsite personnel comply with project procedures, OSHA, safety program requirements, and work rules. Document all violations, notify project management, and recommend and implement corrective actions as required.
- Human Resources – Responsible for compliance with all Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action policies and procedures. Communicate and reinforce the Company vision, values, and goals. Continually improve proper working techniques through training, processes, procedures, and Merit Construction policies.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Five years of supervisory experience using similar construction methods, equipment, and tools
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Advanced knowledge of construction scheduling
- Ability to control and supervise large groups
- Strong organization, multi-tasking, leadership, and decision-making ability
- Basic computer skills
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction including technology, equipment, methods, engineering, cost, and safety
- Excellent communication, organizational, and supervisory skills
- High school diploma or GED and five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- May be required to use a personal computer or iPad and be familiar with Windows-based applications
- Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record

- Accident Investigation Training (Merit Training)
