Manufacturing Engineer 5 – Assembly & Test
Location: Pontiac, IL
Schedule:1st of 2nd Shift, Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM / 7a-330p
Duration: 12 months – with potential to extend or convert
Work Arrangement: Onsite – Pontiac, IL
We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to provide hands-on engineering support for the assembly and testing of fuel injectors and fuel system components in a production environment. This role will focus heavily on troubleshooting assembly and test equipment, supporting process improvements, validating manufacturing and test processes, and developing APQP documentation. The engineer will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Test Engineering, and Operations teams to identify root causes of issues and improve production processes. The selected candidate will initially train on 1st shift for several months before transitioning to 2nd shift and working independently as the primary Manufacturing Engineer supporting the production team.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on engineering support directly on the manufacturing floor for assembly and test operations.
- Troubleshoot assembly equipment, test benches, and production processes.
- Investigate first-test-pass failures and identify potential causes affecting assembly and test performance.
- Support validation of assembly and end-of-line testing processes for fuel injectors and fuel system components.
- Develop and maintain APQP documentation, including Process Flow, Control Plans, and PFMEA.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to improve quality, efficiency, and process reliability.
- Analyze production data, reports, and process results to identify deviations from established standards.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Test Engineering, and Operations.
- Facilitate and participate in cross-functional meetings both in person and virtually.
- Manage priorities across multiple projects and provide technical support to production.
- Help identify and mitigate manufacturing and assembly risks.
- Support documentation and validation activities related to new or modified processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Master's degree accepted.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Manufacturing Engineering or Assembly Engineering experience strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
- Experience with assembly and/or test processes preferred.
- Experience developing and facilitating APQP elements, including:
- Process Flow
- Control Plan
- PFMEA
- Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and assembly processes.
- Ability to understand how process and equipment variables can affect test results.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
