School Nutrition Operations Coordinator
Full-Time, Twelve-Month Work Year, Salaried | Hours: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with one hour lunch
We are seeking a dedicated and highly organized School Nutrition Operations Coordinator to lead and oversee the day-to-day management of our food service operations. While part of the Food and Nutrition Services Department, this position is primarily focused on operations, compliance, program oversight, and staffing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists in the supervision of staff and the operation of schools and programs across the district
- Manage staffing, including scheduling, shift coverage, and workload adjustments.
- Provide direct supervision of staff performance and annual evaluation; oversee employee disciplinary processes and enforce compliance with department policies.
- Assists with onboarding new hires, including the selection and orientation of staff
- Lead weekly department meetings to review operational standards and expectations.
- Oversee and improve cafeteria services, district catering, internal/external satellite operations and the food truck.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for district food truck operation and fleet vehicle services, coordinating events and working with the maintenance department to address vehicle issues as they arise.
- Support and supervise Summer Food Service Program staff.
Compliance & Oversight
- Ensure all cafeterias meet operational standards and remain in full compliance with public health code.
- Conduct regular, documented site visitations across all programs (breakfast, lunch, after-school snacks, summer, and supper). Includes preparation for administrative and onsite reviews to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and follow-up corrective actions as needed.
- Perform administrative and on-site audits to verify compliance with USDA regulations, district policies, and food safety and sanitation.
- Develop and conduct trainings to ensure staff compliance with professional standards and regulations; document compliance accordingly.
Program & Nutrition Administration
- Complete menus, recipe development, and production records in accordance with USDA regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date nutrition and allergy information in the POS system; communicate with nurses to keep them informed.
- Organize special events within schools.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to cafeteria managers to strengthen leadership skills and operational effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and inclusivity across all sites.
- Mentor staff by encouraging professional growth, supporting career development, and recognizing contributions.
- Model strong leadership practices through clear communication, constructive feedback, and positive reinforcement.
What We’re Looking For:
- Prior leadership experience with strengths in daily operations and supervision.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multi-site operations and competing priorities.
- Familiarity with USDA child nutrition programs and compliance requirements.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, and other personnel.
- Ability to motivate staff, collaborate with schools, and engage the community.
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, Food Service, or a related field.
- ServSafe Certification.
- Registered Dietitian, certified by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) preferred.
Position Details:
- This is a salaried position scheduled to work 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with a one-hour lunch, Monday through Friday.
- Flexibility is required to meet operational needs.
- Occasional weekend and evening work will be required.
Salary Range:
$67,000-$71,000, depending, on experience and qualifications.
- Candidates who are Registered Dietitians - additional annual $1,500 compensation.
- Candidates with Master's Degrees - additional annual $6,000 compensation.
