Primary hours of position would be 7pm-7am with an alternating weekend rotation.
Job Summary
Greets, directs, and assists patients and customers entering the Emergency Department through the emergency entrance. They will be able to recognize life threatening and urgent presentations of patients arriving ambulatory to the intake window and will perform intake of key data elements including name, date of birth, chief complaint and primary care physician to initiate the registration process in Meditech. Additionally, the Intake representative will assume responsibilities related to Patient Access functions including Registration, Insurance Verification, co-pay and self-pay collection. They ensure at all times that the patients feel secure, safe and are treated with respect, dignity and compassion.
Job Responsibilities
- Greets patients, family and visitors entering the Emergency Department reflecting FHN PRIDE Standards.
- Intake of key data elements including name, date of birth, chief complaint and primary care physician.
- Recognition of life threatening and urgent presentations.
- Appropriately responding to patients presenting with life threatening and urgent issues by notifying ED triage nurse or other assistance as identified i.e. Security.
- Monitors Emergency Department waiting room for changes in patient conditions and safety of those present.
- Greet, direct and log visitors arriving.
- Verifies registration/demographic information in Meditech for all ED patients cart-side.
- Performs insurance eligibility verification.
- Provides information to patients on financial assistance programs as necessary.
- Provides presumptive screening tools for patients who present to the ED as Self Pay.
- Collects appropriate co-pay and self-pay payments.
- Provides registration services to the hospital for inpatient admissions, OB admissions, newborn, outpatient registration, order entry for patients during hours when the Admitting department is closed.
- Gathers advance directives information from patients and provides information to patients as requested.
Job Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Experience: Previous work experience in the healthcare field preferred.
Special Skills and Abilities: NA
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- BLS certification required
- CPR certification required
