In the Laborer/Painter (Per Diem) role, you will assist our maintenance team in providing our residents with safe, well-maintained Mercy Haven Residential Housing. Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, you will assist maintenance mechanics as they perform a wide range of duties including landscaping, building repairs and maintenance, appliance repairs and maintenance, installing carpeting and flooring, and other duties as required. Previous experience painting and spackling preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Physical work is required including bending, stretching and lifting. Painting, spackling and wall repairs as well as assisting and supporting others in the overall maintenance of all Mercy Haven properties:
- Monitoring the buildings to ensure that they are maintained in safe, decent, and sanitary conditions
- Performing routine maintenance and household repairs, such as painting, minor wall repair, landscaping and power washing, stripping and waxing floors, tiling, and cabinet work, etc.
- Conducting building inspections as scheduled by Director of Facilities Management
- Preparing apartments and grounds for new tenants
- Teaching residents and staff how to maintain appliances and grounds
- Working with volunteers and residents, whenever possible
- Perform minor and major repair to all buildings and equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance
- Repair/replace broken windows, doors, door locks
- Follow all safety rules and procedures as defined by Director of Facilities
- On-call for emergencies and respond to emergency maintenance requests through on-call schedule
- Work occasional weekend day(s), throughout the year, as deemed necessary
- Assume other duties as required
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
To be successful in this role, you should have proven experience in general maintenance, construction, or property management. You must have a high school diploma or equivalent and must be proficient with hand and power tools. You'll have working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical systems, and carpentry. The position requires the physical ability to lift and move heavy items up to 125-200 pounds safely and perform physically demanding tasks.
Strong attention to detail, the ability to troubleshoot issues, and good time management skills are essential. You should be comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with a team. Familiarity with maintenance tracking software is preferred but not required. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are necessary, as travel between properties is a routine part of the job.

PAY RANGE: $18.00 - $20.00 an hour, based on experience
