Responsibilities
- Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health challenges or substance use issues, promoting recovery and self-advocacy.
- Share personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and motivate clients toward positive change.
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies, crisis management skills, and harm reduction techniques tailored to their unique needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans, ensuring client confidentiality and respectful communication.
- Engage in crisis intervention when necessary, utilizing de-escalation techniques and behavioral health knowledge to ensure safety.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions using electronic health record (EHR) systems while adhering to privacy regulations.
- Advocate for clients’ needs within the community, promoting access to resources and culturally competent services.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) from an accredited organization is required.
- Personal experience with mental health conditions or substance use disorders, demonstrating resilience and recovery.
- Knowledge of crisis management, behavioral health principles, and addiction counseling techniques.
- Experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders in diverse cultural settings.
- Strong communication skills for client engagement, client education, and team collaboration.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and agency policies.
- Familiarity with social work practices, harm reduction strategies, and EHR systems is preferred.
