What are the responsibilities and job description for the SHIPPING CLERK - TIER 1 position at MERCER VALVE CO INC?
JOB SUMMARY:
Prepare shipping documentation such as Bills of Lading and submit export information into computer software while helping in other areas of the department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Learn and apply Shipping laws for domestic shipments.
- Generate information on Bills of Lading to prepare shipment.
- Fill out and submit all domestic documentation as required by customer and law.
- Schedule freight carrier pickups and work with Freight Forwarders and Logistics companies as needed.
- Affix required documentation and labels to shipments.
- Review the Sales Order for any special instructions for shipment.
- Entering in basic information into computer software to engrave tags that will be attached to the valves.
- Drill holes into caps and affix wires and tags to valves.
- Fold and secure boxes to be used at the end of the Shipping Line.
- Read specific instructions written on Work Orders and apply as necessary.
- Visually inspect valves and tags for quality.
- Pack valves in boxes with protective foam, ensuring valves will not be damaged in-transit to customer.
- Palletize orders, adding labels and extra packing as needed.
- Build crates and place valves in crates appropriately to avoid damage in-transit to customer.
- Use pallet jacks to move orders around in the production area.
- Drive a forklift to load pallets into staging area and onto trucks.
*Employee may be required to work more or less than 40 hours/week as part of their regular schedule based on production needs.
Qualifications:SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Data Entry skills.
- Attention to detail and organization skills.
- Must be punctual and have a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Previous knowledge of shipping is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs unassisted.
- Ability to use a pallet jack.
- Ability to operate and experience driving a forklift is preferred.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to learn and understand shipping regulations
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to process shipment from beginning to end for domestic shipments.
Salary : $18
