The Classroom Aide is a school employee who works under the direction of a certified staff member to support and assist in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible young children. The support and assistance include one-on-one, or group review, of material taught by certificated staff, classroom management, and implementation of positive behavioral support plans.
Position Details and Duties
The Classroom Aide is a school employee who works under the direction of a certified Special Education Teacher to support and assist in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible young children. The support and assistance include one-on-one, or group review of material taught by certificated staff, classroom management, and implementation of positive behavioral support plans. Services may be provided in a special education class, regular class, or instructional setting as provided in the students’ IEP.
- Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, etc. as assigned by the classroom teacher.
- Supervise students in designated areas and as assigned (e.g. hallways, bathrooms, cafeterias, playground, gym, field trips, etc.).
- Monitor all classroom students’ performance and record relevant data daily to assess progress.
- Assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Participate in parent – teacher conferences, as appropriate.
- Assist in bus loading and unloading of students from transportation.
- Will fulfill duties of a Behavior Technician as needed.
- Other appropriate duties as assigned to meet programmatic needs.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum High school diploma/GED and
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality through completion of Credential of Competency for Special Education Para-educators in Pennsylvania
- 5 years’ relevant verifiable experience.
Or
- Have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary study; or
- Possess an associate degree or higher.
- 1 – 3 years relevant verifiable experience
Associate degree or higher is preferred.
