Mentor A Promise is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth (ages 5–18) experiencing housing instability, grounded in the belief that every child is a Promise—full of potential, dignity, and possibility. We deliver consistent, high-quality programming across mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, and creative expression in shelters, schools, and community spaces, creating structured environments where students can grow, be seen, and build lasting skills. Through signature experiences like The Imagination Studio, The Kitchen Table, The Sound Lab, and The Story Space, we nurture academic development, emotional well-being, and creative voice, all within a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and accessibility-centered framework. Our work prioritizes dignity-protective storytelling, consent-driven engagement, and deep community partnership, ensuring that how we serve is as intentional as whom we serve. About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City nonprofit supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability. Through mentorship, creative arts, literacy, enrichment programs, storytelling, and community innovation, MAP creates opportunities for young people to grow, thrive, and express themselves.

Thread & Promise, MAP’s fashion and design division, merges mission-driven creativity with craftsmanship, culture, storytelling, and community impact. From apparel and footwear concepts to accessories and textile innovation, Thread & Promise uses design to uplift voices and build identity.

MAP’s Storytelling & Media Division produces blogs, articles, digital content, and narratives that amplify our work and share the stories behind our creative and community-centered projects.

About The Role

We are seeking a Fashion Blogger to create engaging content that highlights Thread & Promise fashion concepts, design projects, sustainable materials, brand storytelling, creative processes, youth involvement, and MAP’s unique mission-driven approach to fashion.

The ideal candidate has strong writing skills, a love for creative narrative, and an interest in purpose-driven fashion.

Key Responsibilities

• Write blog posts about Thread & Promise designs, fashion concepts, sustainable materials, collaborations, and behind-the-scenes creative processes.
• Develop stories that connect fashion to culture, community, empowerment, and MAP’s mission.
• Support content for MAP’s website, social media, newsletters, and storytelling platforms.
• Collaborate with designers, illustrators, youth creators, and the Storytelling & Media team.
• Conduct interviews with MAP fashion volunteers, youth participants, and creative partners (when appropriate).
• Research fashion trends, ethical production methods, material innovation, and cultural influences relevant to Thread & Promise.
• Assist with editorial calendars and content planning.
• Ensure all writing aligns with MAP’s tone uplifting, culturally responsive, youth-centered, and mission-driven.
• Check and respond to emails daily, with responses within 48 hours.
• Take responsibility for performance improvement by integrating feedback and strengthening writing clarity, storytelling, and impact.
  
  

Qualifications

• Strong writing, storytelling, or blogging experience.
• Passion for fashion, design, culture, sustainability, or creative arts.
• Ability to produce engaging and accessible content for diverse audiences.
• Interest in mission-driven, ethical, and community-centered fashion.
• Strong organization and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate across creative and media teams.
  
  

Bonus Skills (not Required)

• Experience with interviews, editorial writing, or brand storytelling.
• Knowledge of sustainable fashion, textile innovation, or design history.
• Comfort supporting photo or video content development.
• Bilingual or multilingual abilities (Spanish or Haitian Creole preferred).
  
  

Commitment

• Volunteer role, 5–10 hours per week.
• Minimum 6-month commitment preferred.
• Hybrid New York City and/or remote via Google Meet.
