About The Advocacy Communications Team
The Advocacy Communications Team ensures that MAP’s policy and advocacy messaging is clear, ethical, and aligned with organizational priorities. The team supports policy initiatives, public campaigns, and stakeholder engagement while maintaining compliance and protecting public trust.
Role Overview
We are seeking an Advocacy Communications Coordinator to support the development and alignment of advocacy messaging across policy initiatives and public communications. This role helps ensure external communications reflect MAP’s advocacy goals while remaining accurate, compliant, and respectful.
The Advocacy Communications Coordinator works closely with advocacy, communications, and legal teams to prepare, review, and maintain messaging standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain general advocacy communications standards and guidance documents
- Develop messaging strategies for policy initiatives, press releases, op-eds, and public campaigns
- Collaborate with advocacy team groups to prepare and review external communications
- Ensure advocacy messaging aligns with policy priorities and organizational values
- Support compliance by ensuring communications avoid prohibited lobbying or misrepresentation
- Assist in coordinating messaging across campaigns and public engagement efforts
- Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Interest in advocacy, public policy, or nonprofit communications
- Ability to translate complex ideas into clear, accessible messaging
- Strong organizational and collaboration skills
- Attention to detail and comfort working with sensitive topics
- Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values
- Experience in communications, public policy, journalism, or advocacy
- Familiarity with nonprofit communications or compliance considerations
- Experience drafting or reviewing public-facing materials
- Comfort collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Volunteer role
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
- Hands-on experience in advocacy communications and policy messaging
- Collaboration with advocacy, communications, and legal teams
- Professional references and letters of recommendation
- Insight into ethical nonprofit advocacy and public engagement
- A meaningful role supporting systems change for children and families
